Bangalore : When fake police give headache to real police...

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Feb 6 : Daylight robberies continue in Bangalore despite crackdown by the police. What give police sleepless nights are the 'innovate' methods adopted by thieves every now and then. Even as they crackdown on a few similar cases, new ones mushroom in the next few days in different forms.

The latest in line giving headaches to Bangalore police is the string of robbery where 250 gram of gold ornaments were snatched at four different places.

In all the places elderly women have been targeted and culprits have successfully escaped from the scene with the gold. In all four cases, the robbers posed as 'police'.

According to the information gathered from the victims, the culprits are between 25 and 30 years of age, and speak Kannada and Tamil.

Incident 1 : On Monday, February 4, Kamala Madhireshan (62), a resident of Ramamoorthy Nagar, Kalkere, was walking back home after shopping at a grocery. While crossing the road, two men who came in a two-wheeler introduced themselves as police and warned her that a lady had been murdered nearby for gold ornaments, so she must remove her gold and keep it in a bag while walking. The lady believed their story, removed her gold and packed it in a paper. These two men helped her while packing and kept the packet in her bag.

However, on opening the packet after reaching home, she found stones instead of her gold!

Incident 2 : On Tuesday February 5 at 9.30 am, Girinagar resident Lalitha (69) was walking home after a visit to the temple. Two men who came by bike posed as Bangalore CCB police and warned her that daylight robbery had increased around Bangalore of late, so care should be taken about one's gold. They advised her to pack her gold ornaments and keep the packet in the bag till she reached hom. She innocently obeyed, and packed the gold with the 'help' of the 'police'. Only when she reached home did she realized that she had lost four bangles worth Rs 1.8 lac!

Incident 3 & 4 : On Tuesday morning at around the same time, near Rajarajeshwari Nagar, 50-year-old Manjula was walking towards the bank, when two men came by bike, showed their 'police' ID cards and cautioned the lady about a woman in the vicinity who got murdered for gold. They advised her to keep the gold in her bag. While trying to help her keep the gold in her bag, the imposters made away with a 30 gram gold ornament.

A similar incident took place near Tilaknagar at 10.30 am on Tuesday. This time four men came in a jeep and introduced themselves as police by flashing an 'ID card'. They robbed 50-year-old Yamuna by warning her with the 'woman-murdered-in-vicinity' story. The four men managed to rob her of 60 grams gold and escaped.

With the robberies giving solid headaches to Bangalore police, they are now keeping serious watch on such incidents around the city.
