Mangalore: City walls to get facelift, the artistic way

Mangalore, Feb 12: With an aim to beautify the city and to create better civic sense among the people, the MCC in collaboration with Karnataka Bank has come up with the idea of putting up wall drawings on all the public buildings and compounds.
In this regard, the inaugural ceremony of wall drawings was held near Karnataka Bank, Hampankatta branch on Tuesday February 12.
P Jayaram Bhat, managing director and CEO of Karnataka Bank inaugurated the drawings along with Dr Harish Kumar K, commissioner of MCC and Mahabala Bhat, general manager.
Jayaram Bhat said the project of wall drawings is being taken up for the beautification of the city and to promote art. "The wall drawings will be done across the city. I urge people to lend their support to this good work," he said.
Bhat also assured his support on behalf of Karnataka Bank for similar kinds of work in future.
Commissioner Dr Harish said the task of making the city beautiful has already started with the wall drawings that were inaugurated on Tuesday. "Most of the time people do not lend their support when it comes to beautification of the city. Despite MCC banning posters and hoardings, we find people doing putting them up. We will take strict action in this regard," he said
Dr Harish said the initiative of wall drawings was taken to avoid defacing of the public walls and thanked Karnataka Bank for their support.
In this project, the Karnatak Bank has come forward to sponsor the cost of wall drawings on the three main public walls (totally 858 sq ft) - compound wall of ASRP government women’s hostel at PVS circle, a part of the compound wall of Wenlock hospital and a part of University College compound near Karnataka Bank, Hampankatta branch.
Artists Harish Marne and Harish Kodialbail of STS-Core Decore under the guidance of Dinesh Holla will paint the walls based on the famous Maharastrian warli art and other simple line drawings.
