Mangalore, Feb 12: With an aim to beautify the city and to create better civic sense among the people, the MCC in collaboration with Karnataka Bank has come up with the idea of putting up wall drawings on all the public buildings and compounds.

In this regard, the inaugural ceremony of wall drawings was held near Karnataka Bank, Hampankatta branch on Tuesday February 12.

P Jayaram Bhat, managing director and CEO of Karnataka Bank inaugurated the drawings along with Dr Harish Kumar K, commissioner of MCC and Mahabala Bhat, general manager.

Jayaram Bhat said the project of wall drawings is being taken up for the beautification of the city and to promote art. "The wall drawings will be done across the city. I urge people to lend their support to this good work," he said.

Bhat also assured his support on behalf of Karnataka Bank for similar kinds of work in future.

Commissioner Dr Harish said the task of making the city beautiful has already started with the wall drawings that were inaugurated on Tuesday. "Most of the time people do not lend their support when it comes to beautification of the city. Despite MCC banning posters and hoardings, we find people doing putting them up. We will take strict action in this regard," he said

Dr Harish said the initiative of wall drawings was taken to avoid defacing of the public walls and thanked Karnataka Bank for their support.

In this project, the Karnatak Bank has come forward to sponsor the cost of wall drawings on the three main public walls (totally 858 sq ft) - compound wall of ASRP government women’s hostel at PVS circle, a part of the compound wall of Wenlock hospital and a part of University College compound near Karnataka Bank, Hampankatta branch.

Artists Harish Marne and Harish Kodialbail of STS-Core Decore under the guidance of Dinesh Holla will paint the walls based on the famous Maharastrian warli art and other simple line drawings.

We need more gardens , Play grounds , jogging parks. Due to indiscriminate
construction all over Managalore, there is no place left for common people just to walk. If the concerned authorities do not think about this , with in few years, mangalore will be a concrete jungle.

I do not understand why the paintings are for Mangalore walls. For six months rain they all will be completely darkened if not peeled off. In Bangalore they have done it. But do they look good? I really doubt. But the walls can be kept neat and clean by painting them annually or between a gap of particular period. I doubt there is something more than the beauty alone which Karnataka Bank is looking for. The CEO probably looking for a feather in his cap.

I do not subscribe to the idea of beautifying city walls by painting. It neither improves quality of life.MCC should first strive completing projects providing basic eminities like under ground drainage system, drinkin water distribution, good roads and proper foot path in the MCC limits, proper garbage collection etc.,

Please provide thrash bins around so that thrash is not thrown around. A trash bin is put just front of Kulshekar Milk Diary, bin over flows, thrash all around, thrash not collected for days. Is it Hygenic a thrash bin in front of a Milk diary. How can the Municipality afford to be so careless and not notice this. Milk is supplied throughout the city. I would appreciate if this is removed from there and placed in some other place.

We require more paid public toilets, no plastic, clean roads and foot path, first the basics then try painting other wise some body will defecate in the place of painting.

For God's sake please give us footpaths along the sides of the roads. The city looks shabby n ugly
already without proper pavements. Well-laid pavements and daily emptying the waste bins enhances the beauty of this neglected city.

last week when i had been to Bangalore every wall was seen painted with really beautiful paintings, but parallely along with these i could also see beautiful trees and good roads, but in mangalore i dont think this is a priority,as one comment rightly states of nanthoor junction and the road to padil, kulshekar, pumpwell talapady is not yet complete since a long time hence request u to give priority to this job as monsoon is fast approaching and we will face a lot of problems " PRECAUTION IS BETTER THAN CURE"

It is fine. But, let the MCC focus its attention on providing walk-way (footpath) along the city roads. Pedestrians are compelled to descend on the main streets risking their lives.

Since there are 6 months Monsoon in Coastal Karnataka, Wall painting is not worth for Coastal Area. Why do you waste public money. Please Maintain Road & Greenery, remove granite foot path,Garbage, prevent plastic, etc.
    and keep the city clean.

This would be a huge waste of paint, effort & money. Why? Mangalore does not have even a hundred yards stretch of properly paved footpath, anywhere in the city.Every shopfront is far from 'level' ground where people can walk without discomfort.Every tree along the roads has been foolishly cut down. The most recent abomination is the felling of two or three trees along the pavement at Kankanady Maidan. These had provided natural shade/cover from the harsh sun to hundreds of bus passengers waiting to board buses.A bus shelter is being put up but before long it will be more of a white elephant, dirty & neglected.Between this new shelter & Hopcoms fruit stall is a building being built bang on the main road, apparently a public toilet. It's opening will face the Ganesh Medical Store.WHAT AN EYE SORE?

Which "official" has approved this site for the public toilet? He/she seems to be devoid of any sense of appropriateness. To see the public park/maidan being degraded in this way is an assault on the citizens.ALL these vendors must be removed from the edge of the maidan & made to occupy a place within the so called Kankanady Maidan.Would the CEO Karnataka Bank visit the K'nady market zone/building & explore what they could do to render that market a suitable site for sale of fresh food. meat/poultry etc. When the ugly hoardings from all over the City are taken down & owners maintain their compound walls in a fair state the city by itself would look tidier.Painting of a few stretches of the walls is totally ill concieved & wasteful of good resources of a responsible Bank.

Good Move. But Prohibit Poster Pasting. Otherwise you paint in the morning, by night somebody will paste a ugly poster over it.
