Udupi, Feb 13: The youth Congress committee of Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency, on Tuesday February 12, submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister through the district deputy commissioner, urging him to make public the probe report into the allegation of a rave party having been held at St Mary’s island off Malpe from February 3 to 5, 2012. A youth Congress delegation handed over the memorandum.

It said that the state government, under pressure from the Congress, had ordered for the said probe. It was alleged that in the name of festival meant to promote tourism, thousands of foreigners were allowed to take part in a rave party arranged at St Mary’s island during the above period, and among others, local MLA, K Ragupati was present there.  Mysore divisional commissioner, M V Jayanti, had led a probe team of officials to the venue, and after obtaining statement from various people and organizations, had submitted a detailed report to the government.

Through the memorandum, the Congress has charged the government of neither making the contents of the report public, nor taking any action on it, even after a year since the party was held. It alleged that inaction on the part of the government smacks of a secret effort to save someone.

“Those behind this incident, which has sullied the reputation of the town, should be brought to book immediately. The report should be made public. Suitable legal action should be initiated against the guilty, and steps should be taken against repetition of such mistakes in future. The district administration should be directed to ensure quality while holding programmes aimed at promoting tourism,” it urged.

Additional deputy commissioner of the district, Kumar, received the memorandum. The delegation of the youth Congress comprised its vice president, Amrit Shenoy, Udupi constituency committee president, Yatish Karkera, Janardan Bhandarkar, and several others.
