Dubai, Mar 26: The response to the write-up published on Daijiworld on March 14 for the forthcoming seminar on ‘Life Skills for Teenagers & Parents’ on Friday April 5 at India Club from 11 am to 5 pm has been overwhelming. Mangalore Konkans Dubai thanks all the registered participants for showing keen interest in enhancing their knowledge on life skills and to maintain their finance and health prudently.

All the registered participants of the Seminar are hereby requested to be at the venue on April 5 by 10:30 am. The event will commence at 11 am sharp, to maintain time schedule to cover all the topics well and give enough time for interaction with the guest speakers.

As of today only a few seats are available. Any teenager between age 12-18 years and adults over 19 years are requested to register online by accessing the website: www.mangalorekonkans.com before the close of registration. Please note that only pre registered participants will be allowed on the day of the seminar.

The six speakers selected to address the audience are all professionally qualified in their respective subjects and are trained to keep the audience glued to seats by their great presentation skills. For all those of who are eager to know about the speakers, please continue to read below.

 

‘Self Esteem’



A session for teenagers by Marissa

Marisa has a Master’s degree in clinical psychology followed by an MPhil in medical and social psychology from NIMHANS, Bangalore. She is also a member of the British Psychological Society and Emirates Medical Association. She is a licensed counselor and clinical psychologist having obtained her license from the Dubai Health Care City. She is currently working as a clinical psychologist and counselor at the Child Early Intervention Medical Center at the Dubai Health Care City.

Her training has been in the diagnosis and treatment of various psychological disorders. Her expertise lies in the diagnosis and intervention of various disorders of childhood and adolescence. She helps children and teenagers overcome their conflicts and fears through different kinds of therapy like Play therapy and Cognitive Behaviour therapy, improve their study strategies and build their confidence and self esteem. She was the counselor for the Young Times magazine 10 years.

Marissa has been the favorite speaker of the audience at various institutions when she has addressed them on topics such as 'Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder', 'Learning Disorders', Understanding and modifying problem behavior in children with Autism’, ‘Stress and how to deal with it’, ‘Self Esteem’, ‘Peer Pressure & Substance Abuse’ and many more. She also runs courses 'Happy Heart' for kids and 'Heart to Heart' for teenagers.

Her goal in life is to bring a smile to those faced with challenges by helping them face these challenges and get on with their lives.

Mark D'Souza, is a chartered accountant, a Fellow Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, has more than 25 years experience in audit and assurance services, taxation, corporate law, foreign exchange and business and financial consulting.

He is the co-founder of Maclanro Consulting firm, involved in business consulting, corporate training and succession planning including drafting of Indian and Global Wills. Qualified as a chartered accountant in the year 1988 from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, he is practicing through his proprietary firm Mark D'Souza & Co. since 1988.
 
Mark is currently the director governance of KE Global and president elect of Kanara Entrepreneurs (KE) Bangalore, an organization formed to nurture entrepreneurship and net working among the entrepreneurs and professionals.

Mark is the member of taxation committee of Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce, (FKCCI). He is also a member on the advisory board in a number of leading educational and non-profit organizations in Bangalore.

Mark has over 25 years teaching experience in accounting, financial management, taxation and banking. Mark has over 5,000 hours of training experience, which includes financial planning, accounting, direct and indirect taxation, banking, fcra, communication and has over 20,000 hours of business consulting experience.

Dr Lavina Ahuja is a Counseling Psychologist at LifeWorks Counseling and Development, Dubai. She has worked with individuals with mental health issues and in distress, in Canada, UK and in Dubai.

Born and brought up in Dubai, she has done her doctorate in counseling psychology at the University of Teesside in UK. She has advanced her education with added training at The Relate Institute (UK), regarding working with couples and family in a systemic manner. She is a chartered psychologist and a full member in the Division of Counseling Psychology at the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Dr Lavina Ahuja offers individual, couple and family counselling at LifeWorks Counselling, Dubai, covering topics such as relationship and couple counseling, family counselling parental issues with special needs, communication/relationship issues, depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief and bereavement, adjustment issues, coping with chronic illness/disability, carers of individuals with chronic illness/disability, trauma and personal development.

Her area of speciality is attachment and relationship issues, especially divorce She has extensively studied the impact of divorce, on the individual, the couple, and the family, including children and the impact parental divorce has on them.

A session for Teenagers by Sujit Sukumaran

Sujit Sukumaran holds a master’s degree in HR from the British University in Dubai and currently works in the HR practice for Ideal Management Consultants. Having 6 years experience in operational and strategic HR, prior training assignments include coaching assignments for large corporates, psychometric testing module design, leadership and communication training.

Being ambitious in life, despite the challenges that he had to face from his childhood, through hard work, perseverance and determination, this young gentleman Sujit has achieved much more than what a youngster of his age would achieve.

He is a TED speaker and a Dubai Quality Group Awardee for Innovation in Training project "Champions Incubator”. Sujit is also a distinguished Toastmaster from Toastmasters International. He was the youngest Area Governor in the Middle East at the age of 26.

On the community front he is a founding member of the Society for Advocacy and Awareness Towards Holistic Inclusion (SAATHI) a disability rehabilitation non-profit formed under the aegis of the Indian Consulate, where he leads the advocacy initiative for people with disability, himself being a cerebral palsy survivor.

Sujit’s areas of expertise include business communication, making effective presentations, conflict management, coaching and leadership development.

 

Healthy Lifestyle



A session for Teenagers & Parents/Adults by Maryla Johnson

Nutritional therapist and personal trainer Maryla, is originally from Poland but lived and worked in the UK since 1985. Her passion for nutrition and fitness started with a personal commitment to eating healthy foods and exercise. The positive physiological effects she experienced through her own lifestyle changes, inspired her to empower others to do the same.

First, in 2000, Maryla enrolled at Premier Training International and finished with the Diploma in personal training. After working as a trainer for a couple of years she discovered that something was missing in her approach to achievement of optimum results. She began to understand that the next important factor of healthy living is nutrition.

After her studies in nutritional therapy and after her graduation, Maryla concentrated on setting up and running weight loss and weight management courses, which she runs with great success. In addition to her personal training and nutritional therapy diplomas, she holds a post rehabilitation and exercise with different disabilities, and pilates certificates. This enabled her to work for many years with GP referral scheme, run by Southampton leisure Centre in the UK. The GP referral programme was for patients with at least one risk factor such as Type 2 diabetes, clinically obese, stress/anxiety, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, smokers, raised cholesterol, hypertension, back pain and many other conditions. At the moment, Maryla’s special interest is to teach cardiovascular and strengthening exercises and designed dietary programmes tailored to the specific needs of older adults in order to combat the natural health decline associated with aging and chronic diseases.
