Bengaluru, Mar 13: With rising temperatures and prolonged heatwaves, doctors across India are cautioning that kidney-related health issues could increase, especially among vulnerable groups, as part of World Kidney Day awareness initiatives.
Medical experts highlighted that dehydration during extreme heat can strain the kidneys, leading to complications such as kidney stones, urinary infections, and in severe cases, kidney failure. They advised staying well-hydrated, avoiding excessive sun exposure, and monitoring warning signs like fatigue, swelling, or reduced urination.

In Mysuru, healthcare organisations conducted awareness programmes stressing the importance of early detection and regular check-ups to prevent chronic kidney disease. Doctors noted that individuals with diabetes, high blood pressure, or pre-existing kidney disorders face higher risks during heatwaves and should take extra precautions.
Experts also recommended maintaining a balanced diet, limiting salt intake, and consulting healthcare professionals promptly if kidney-related symptoms arise. With summers intensifying, authorities emphasised that public awareness and preventive care are crucial to safeguarding kidney health.
