Kundapur, Apr 1: French consul general from Bangalore, Eric Lavertu, and press attache, Hemangini Rakshit, visited the family of Krishnaiah Mogaveera, who lost his life in firing by French troupes due to mistaken identity at Bangui airport in Central African Republic on March 26, at their home in Kattu, Hemmady village in the taluk on Monday April 1.

Speaking to family members of Mogaveera and press persons on the occasion, Lavertu expressed his sorrow and regret at the unfortunate incident.

“We express our deep regret for this incident. We will hold inquiry into the incident within a month, and will take action based on the outcome thereof as soon as the report is received. Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has taken interest in the case, and has written to our office seeking immediate initiation of steps. We will arrange for disbursement of compensation to the family as soon as possible,” he promised.

Sources said that the body of Mogaveera reached Mumbai via New Delhi on Sunday, and that it would reach Mangalore by noon today. It is learnt that Uday, who was injured in the firing, will be accompanying the body. Shekhar, brother of Krishnaiah, will receive the mortal remains at Mangalore, upon which it will be delivered to the family through an ambulance. The family has made arrangements for the funeral today evening by 5 pm.

Uday, brother of Krishna Mogaveera, said that they could ensure early delivery of the body here by being in constant contact with the government there, with the support of Indian government and media.

France has a huge stake in selling Rafaele fighter aircraft to the Indian Air Force. It is in its interest to appear to be "humanitarian". The Italians realized that it is not in their business interests to not send the Marines back. They have many business interests in India, form Big babol to Fiat and Fincantieri is designing India's second aircraft carrier the Vikrant now being built in Kochi. Always remember as Henry Kissinger said, "there are no friends in international diplomacy, only interests". Unfortunately most of the forumites seem conned by the French consul's actions. The French are past masters ( not as astute as the British) but with great experience in dividing Arabia( the Sykes-Picot treaty google it!), Indo-China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos and French Africa, Cameroon, Senegal, Mali
and Morocco. Sleepy Mangaloreans who do not see beyond the immediate horizon cannot be counted on to see that such public relations are to cement various lucrative business deals largely in the form of weapon systems, Rafaele fighters, Scorpene submarines and a host of other systems that India is in the market for.

Great gesture by the French Diplomat. Human respect exists only in that part of the world. That's why those countries blessed and developed. Asia and Middle East should learn from them .

It is a great gesture by the diplomat. He is apologising on behalf of his country. I think French will definitely compensate him. Such errors can happen in India too and have happened in places like Kashmir and Assam to name a few.

It is not the same as firing by Italians on a fishing boat. The circumstances are grossly different.

Rich countries deploy their army at poor countries in the name of democracy, stablility, justice and peace. This is another trick for having some military recruitment and to support their arm manufacturing companies. Another thing they aim rich natural resources of CAR like diamonds, timber, cotton, the best coffee and nuts. Many innocent people like Krishnayya become victim of this armed men. They cried “Indians...Indians “while they are reaching Bangui airport. It is a brutal act by French army firing over innocent people. Are these people having any courage like sandeep unnikrishnan to fight against terrorist? This killing should be treated as crime and must be investigated by international human right commission. India must not finish this issue just showing sentiments but strongly react over this. We must care every Indians life who are working abroad. Let the international community understand the outrage of every Indian. Any compensation cannot by valued with his precious life.We don’t want sentiments but we need justice

Mr.Bollu..Even Italian Foreign Affairs Minister visited Indian fishermen killed by Italian Naval force. But they didn't accept that they killed fishermen deliberately.
Here too, French soldiers made a big mistake like Italian sailors. They fired at Inidans who were coming to airport by Government sponsored vehicle and not by any pvt vehicle. They could have waited for a minute, and they fired at unarmed Indians..Now..SORRY STORY..Indian life is take it for granted in India & overseas !!

    Jaimini...
It's not question of visit by Italian Diplomat...but it's turn-down to handover sailor's as promised. India is powerful nation..it can take any action..even though interference of NATO. India is within big league amongst ten developed nations..it's other matter some vested interest are doing inner conflict and malign image of India.

Mr ISMAIL.K.PERINJE , why should you say in latin for a french consulate , you should have say him "Ami du genre humain"
However nobody seems to understand and question , in a independent country like Republic of Central Africa what French military is doing and how and why they hold the airport of that country under their control !! You definitely would not call him friend of Human race, if you ever been to one of these french African countries!

Great gesture by the Diplomat. He has shown the humanity unlike our own Indian brothers killing each other Indians. There should not be delay in granting a reasonable amount of compensation. We can not undue what the destiny has done. MY HEART IS WITH THE FAMILY....RIP

Good gesture from France's consul-general..at least he thought to visit family of Krishnaiah. Should learn Italian Government as well Foreign Minister of Italy by resigning ..nothing is going to happen. Should respect human lives..whoever they are..accept mistakes. At least somewhat relief happen within family.
