Mangalore, Apr 2: The police have made another headway into the Girish Putran murder case with the arrest of a man from Malemar on Monday April.

With the arrest of Reetu alias Ritesh (28), a resident of Malemar, the number of arrested in the case pertaining to the murder of Girish Putran (50) from Hoige Bazaar here, has risen to 3. Natasha and Rajesh, both from Kodical in the city, had been nabbed by the police in this case on February 9 this year. The police said that they hope to arrest Prashant, the remaining accused in the case, soon.

Putran, who worked in Dubai for several years, had returned a few months back. In spite of having his own house, he stayed in a lodge here. It is said that Rajesh decided to eliminate Girish Putran, as the latter started loving Natasha, with whom Rajesh was already in love.

A police team led by Bajpe station inspector, Dinakar Shetty, made this arrest.

Ritesh, who faces two cases of murder attempts and another in Mumbai relating to possession of illegal arms, was arrested from near Bappanadu in Mulki, on the basis of reliable information. The knife used for the murder was recovered from him. It is gathered that the police, who were informed that the clothes of Putran were taken to Beltangady and burnt down, have also collected the ashes thereof.

Putran, who was trading in fish at fisheries dock in Bunder here, and was also involved with real estate business, was murdered on December 22. The accused, in the guise of discussing some real estate deal, took Putran in a car, showed him a spot they said was for sale, before taking him to Suratkal beach. After drinking the beer, they left the beach.

As Prashant drove the car, Putran,Natasha and Ritesh sat in the backseat. The accused had raised the volume of the car’s music system to muffle the voices, and then strangulated Putran, before Ritesh stabbed him repeatedly with a knife, even as the car continued to move. His body, which bore multifarious injury marks, was found lying in a spot within Permude village where it was discarded by the accused. The accused then moved to Beltangady, threw Putran’s mobile phone near Bantwal, and burnt down his clothes at Beltangady. They had taken away ornaments found on Putran’s body, and spent night with an acquaintance in Beltangady.

Rajesh had reportedly contracted the murder of Girish Putran to Ritesh, and had agreed on a price of three lac rupees. Rajesh had also agreed to pay an additional sum of one lac rupees towards court costs, if Ritesh got caught. Ritesh went to Mumbai after executing the murder contract and lied low. In the meantime, Rajesh could not make payment to him as agreed, as he was arrested, it is said.

Just stupid reason to take a life of someone. There is no dearth of girls on this earth. If no Natasha, look for Reena, Tania, Reshma and so on...

All the culprits in the case should be given stringent punishment.
