Mangalore: Multi-crore fraud - Accused arrested in Bangalore

Mangalore, Apr 2: Mohammed Eshan, an accused in a multi-crore fraud case that was reported in February this year in connection with a seafood industry in the city, has been arrested in Bangalore.

Eshan was arrested at Devanahalli airport on Sunday March 31 as soon as he arrived from a foreign country.

The main accused Shameer Bashyar, who was arrested in early February, along with six others including Eshan had reportedly caused heavy loss to the company they were working for, by diverting business to a competitior with whom they had entered into a tacit understanding. Fraudulent transactions worth Rs 3.33 crore was reportedly unearthed by the investigating officers.

Ever since then, Eshan, who was working as a quality control executive in the company, had been absconding. He was expected to arrive in Mangalore from Korea in February, but did not.

On learning that he would be landing in Bangalore, the Pandeshwar police and city crime branch led by inspector Venkatesh Prasanna rounded him off from the airport.

He was later brought to Mangalore and is in custody of the crime branch police who are investigating the case.

Sources said two more persons - Chang Lee from Korea and Arif Mohammed, are yet to be arrested. Arif is understood to be in Saudi Arabia.
