Rahul says he won't be PM, pushes for inclusive India

New Delhi, Apr 4 (IANS): Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi Thursday denied he was in the race to be the prime minister, and came out strongly in favour of an inclusive India.

Rubbishing unending speculation that he might pitch for the prime ministerial job, Gandhi said here: "It's an irrelevant question. It's all smoke."

He was speaking at a hall packed with business leaders at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) meet.

Many feel that Gandhi, son of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, could become the prime minister if the Congress wins the next Lok Sabha election due next year.

"I want to help India by giving voice to its people. You have to unlock the potential of a billion people," said Gandhi, dressed in a white kurta-pyjama.

The 42-year-old, who became the vice president of the 127-year-old Congress Jan 19, spoke on many issues and answered questions from business leaders with confidence.

He took a dig at Hindutva ideology.

"I don't like to keep people out. You can't keep Biharis out of Mumbai or the Muslims of the system. This is not sustainable," he said.

No single individual, he said, would be able to resolve all the problems facing the country.

"If you think there is a guy who will come on a horse charging through and set everything right, this is not going to happen," said Gandhi.

He said miracles should not be expected from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh either.

"If you expect the prime minister to solve all the problems, you are going to keep expecting."

Stating that tags about him like 'pro-poor' or 'pro-Dalit' or 'pro-tribal' "were just pieces of paper", Gandhi said "it is an accident that I come from a chain of people".

Noting that Congress was the only party capable of working with the industry for inclusive development, he said: "I believe in you. I want to forge a partnership with you to take India forward."

To facilitate that, he assured the industry a "fair and rule-based government system".

Gandhi also told industry leaders that if they could thrive in a complex environment like India, he was sure they would succeed anywhere in the world.

Noting that lack of communication between various stakeholders in the value chain was resulting in complexities, he urged the business delegates to unlock the potential of a billion people.

"You cannot imagine what can happen if you open the channels."

Sh(r)ee, Rahul Gandhi’s speech at CII, which was comprised of fumbles, rehearsed punch lines falling fat, lack of any clarity of thought, without out any concrete ideas and above all visionless and nervous, is the best motivation for the middle class to come out and vote for Modi.

Rahul Gandhi is not a PM candidate, he does not have that Charisma or qualification, he is useless who lives in the shadow of his father & grand mother Late Mr. Rajeev Gandhi & Mrs Indira Gandhi, who were able, noble and charismatic leaders. Only Qualification Rahul Gandhi has - Gandhi family Tag.
Congress has more smarter, well qualified youth leaders, but are not given a chance to come up. Time for Congress to search for talent and efficient leaders.

One man trying his best to get PM post by hook or crook....Another side Rahul Gandhi giving slip to oppn by not staking PM post by force or might. This is what differences between Congress and BJP as a National Political party.Even Modi has powerful manipulated international lobby for the post spending million dollars on PR. As a matter of fact, Modi's final standing would be like BSY...Ultimately RAHUL Gandhi will be PM of this country.

slow and steady wins the race-I will give you a illustration hope u understand it.It comes from the tale of the tortoise and the hare (rabbit). They were in a race - the rabbit was much faster, but he stopped of here and there to eat, joke with people, take a nap, etc. and the tortoise kept at it.

Eventually the tortoise won the race because he was "slow and steady" and the hare was erratic.

I know most BJP supporters are shaken by his speech. One half are writing silly comments and the other half are cringing in a corner. CII has applauded his speech as forward thinking and optimistic which gives them lot of confidence of the future. Only the sad BJP'ans are crying hoarse. Now they say that the CII response means nothing, but in the past when the same CII applauded Modi's speech's these very same guys were dancing around as if under the influence of Bhang.Double standards can be seen very clearly. They were also trying pointing fingers at the congress over CAG reports, but what is their response now when the very same CAG has condemned Modi's government in Gujarat.

I watched him talk. He did not read from written script, he talked his mind. He was very optimistic and looking forwarding to changes. Did not sound as if politics or a ministry as his right but he was quite humble.

I don't understand why he and his mother are branded a dynasty. In-fact both, on various occasions, proved that they are not greedy of power.
