Kundapur, Apr 24: A man, who had left his family about three or four years ago, was found dead at Janatha Colony, Kumbhashi here on Wednesday April 24.

The deceased has been identified Ganesh Mogaveera (37) of Koravadi, and son of Krishna and Radha Mogaveera. He was working as a coolie, and is survived by six brothers and a sister.

As per locals, he had parted from his family about three or four years due to some reasons. For the last three months, he was said to be missing.

Locals said that he had been addicted to alcohol. On Wednesday morning, he was lying in a drunken stupor near Janatha Colony and had pleaded for water. Shivram Shettigar, a mason working on a house construction site nearby, gave him water and left the spot believing that Ganesh would be alright once he is out of the hangover.

Later in the day, at around 3 pm, he was found dead. His hand was reportedly broken and there were injury marks on his face. Some coins were also found near the body.

The exact cause of death is not yet known, but it is suspected that he had a fight with some person on the night of Tuesday April 23.

The body has been shifted to Kundapur government hospital for post-mortem.

Kundapur DySP Yashoda, SI Jayaram Gowda, circle inspector Manjunath, ASI Sheena Nayak, and traffic SI Imran and other officials arrived at the spot and investigated.

Zilla panchayat member Ganapathi T Shriyan also visited the spot.

A case has been registered in the Kundapur police station. Investigation are on.

Dear Doctor, sadly times have changed in Mangalore and all over India in the recent years. People have become less sensitive and fail to help one another in the emergency situations. The usual attitude is 'Why we have to get into this lets go'. This is happening in not only cases of accidents but in other cases as well. We general public do not want to inform the illegal activities happening in the area to the enforcement agencies such as police. We fail to understand that we have a ethical and moral duty.
