Mangalore: Thieves divert attention of woman, steal cash, valuables worth Rs 2 lac

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, May 10: In a repetition of several such past incidents, two men succeeded in diverting the attention of a woman and decamping with her cash and ornaments valued at over two lac rupees, on Thursday May 9.

The incident occurred near P V S Circle in the city. A resident of Gandhinagar, Mannagudda in the city, was moving in her car towards her residence, when she parked her car in front of a hotel for taking along some eatables. The mother of the lady went inside the hotel, as the lady sat inside the car with her child and waited.

A youth approached her and told her that a ten rupee note was lying outside the car, before continuing to walk away, talking over his mobile phone. Another middle-aged person who came there drew the attention of lady towards a ten rupee note that was lying outside the car.

As soon as the lady opened the door of the car and moved towards the currency note to pick it up, the two escaped after snatching a handbag kept on the backseat. The handbag reportedly contained gold ornament worth two lac rupees, Rs 11,000 in cash, ATM cards, driving licence, locker key, etc.

On a complaint filed by the cheated woman, a case stands registered in Kadri police station.

Justin Lobo, You took wise decision refusing the money. This is a big trap going on in some areas of Saudi especially if you are pooling a taxi.

The culprit will first the currency near your foot and show others travelling in the taxi that 500 riyals found. He would then ask everyone to check their valets. All would do so and in the process, your valets are snatched and you are pushed out from taxi. If you resist, you would face the heat. The whole exercise is in collusion with the driver. These are done by some unemployed local youths, and most of these incidents go unnoticed, since our expatriate brothers do not bother to lodge a complaint.

It looks like the robbers must have noticed women having gold ornaments in the hand bag (either new purchase or released from bank lockers) and hence they followed the car.

Yes, it is a new strategy of stealing without a big halla gulla. The readers of Daijiworld should share the modus operandi with their families and friends.

If police can nab the culprits, it is appreciable.
