Mangalore: Home stay attack - Media persons urge CM to withdraw cases

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore/Mangalore (SP)

Bangalore/Mangalore, May 23: Representatives of the Union of Visual Media Reporters met state chief minister, Siddaramaiah, at his residence on Wednesday May 22, and submitted a memorandum seeking withdrawal of cases against television reporter Naveen Soorinje, and cameraman Sharan, filed by the police.

They said that the police had registered criminal cases against these persons and arrested them out of vengeance.

“Relating to these cases, the state High Court has already granted bail to Naveen Soorinje. Sharan continues to be in judicial custody. These journalists had visited the venue of the incident just for the purpose of reporting. Even Vijayakumar, who had filed complaint about the incident, has brought this fact to the notice of the court. We have already provided real picture of the incident to the concerned,” the memorandum said.

The journalists have reminded in the memorandum, that Siddaramaiah, who was the leader of the opposition in the assembly at the time the incident occurred, had taken the then BJP government to task, expressing his stiff opposition to the arrest of journalists and depriving them of the right to expression.

They have also urged the chief minister to conduct detailed inquiry against the police officers who were behind registering criminal cases against innocent journalists with malicious intentions, and with the aim of covering up their dereliction of duty, and to take stringent action against them.

the several attacks that took place in the past years have been systematically conspired. In every attack media persons were present before police could come. This is not accidental but preplanned. Hence cm should not withdraw cases but proper enquiry has to be done so that the real god fathers behind these heinous crimes are punished

The CM should not withdraw the cases.Besides the matter is before the High Court. Infact the new State Govt. should ask the CBI to conduct an inquiry and find out all the perpetrators of this crime on the youngsters of Mangalore.

Withdrawing the cases would mean that the Govt. is passionate to Rape / molestation / roberry etc by the moral police hooligans. Let these goons have a taste of their own bitter medicine.

Mr. CM you have to ignore this. B'cos even you were the one among all those who had opposed to this incident & put pressure on BJP to take action on them. Congress had highlighted all these issued during election campain against BJP to get majority vote during this election. So its better even now you should never support this issue.

These attacks happend during BJP regime and communal minded people like... whole heartedly supported & made them HERO in their heart and boasted they are the protectors of Hindu culture or Hindutva. When they change their party from BJP/BD to JD or cong.now after more than a year of attack u recognized them and realized they are the criminals who attacked churches,Homestay attack. What a diehard BJP/BD supporter? what a double standard!!keep it up.

Jeevan, as far as I know, leaders of the church asked case be handed over to CBI, BJP refused. They employed in-Justice somashekar and gave him the report prepared by the BJP to be presented. Do you need proof? Just read his interim report.

The readers are commenting that since the case has been filed in the court, so the court has to decide the outcome. But it was not so during BJP rule. Many cases were slapped against the majority and minority community members by the Police for social disorder, But the cases against the majority community were withdrawn by the cabinet decision and the minority community members are still running after the courts where as their opponent members are relaxing in their houses.

Jeevan, you expect them to remain in BJP and carry on the attacks? All leaders supported such attacks abandoned them and paid goons are either in jail or running around courts. Most attackers are left free without booking by the masters influence! All these anti social communal divide will pay for the crime in nasty way since destiny will not spare any!! Few church attackers have already wrecked their mental peace!! Police spared them but luck is otherwise!

I agree to the request Union of Visual Media Reporters to withdraw the cases against Soorinje and Sharan.
But I still cannot comprehend how they were not able to call the cops on time. It was thier moral and ethical responsibility. Thier claim that they tried calling a particular cop they knew went in vain is worng. Now one is able to call the control room from the mobile phone as well. But the fact that Soorinje and Sharans videography of the barbaric act has given enough proof to the law to take strict action against barbarians.
So this can be one good reason why the cases can be withdrawn

I agree with Stany D'Sa. Then ruling masters and supports enjoyed sadistic pleasure when women and nuns were caned by police on bare skin! That too inside the church! I do not think police are capable of doing it by their own looking at it rationally. Acharya, YB did not even feel the need to oppose such atrocity! That shows their support! It is general public who felt for their catholic citizen and brought a change towards a cordial living and a co-existing society!

This is nothing to do with CM. Court should decide on this and we trust what ever action taken by court is right & LAW is equal for everyone. The present government will not entertain such culprits. I strongly recommend whoever involve in religeous ground (Temple, Masjid & Church)attacks court should punish them - Jail.

CM has every right to question the police. The case can be quashed if it is wrogly booked by polioce due to political pressure. 0ur police will dance to the tunes of ministers and everybody knows how they behaved when BJP guys attacked the churches in Mangalore.

Sharan may get away. What wrong has he done? Just doing his job as a professional and acting on the orders of his boss.
However with the change of guard at the state level the fate of the other 40 who carried out this 'job' at the instructions of their 'Don' or whatever seems sealed! That's why elders say-Have a mind of your own! Do not follow others blindly like lambs do and be lead to the slaughter house!

But not last Mangalore PLEEEEE"S managed to book more than 200 cases against Christian protesters udging BJP.
Wait and see who will get funished? No one will be left scot-free when time comes.

Why these cases are still kept pending even though in a cabinet decision it was decided to withdraw.I don't think Siddu has much say about this and a cabinet already obtained. Siddu,CM of Karnataka, one of the main critic of the POLICE ACTION (DELIBERATE)certainly will do needful. Our demand is that the police inspector who booked and ambushed Sri Naveen should be immediately taken to ask and appropriate action should be initiated.Entire DK police force infiltrated by certain vested interest.En masse transfer, action, and past 5-7 years all cases pertaining to MORA POLICING SHOULD BE RE OPENED.Siddu's one of the election issue also MORAL POLICING.Time is ripe to do need ful by newly installed govt.(By the way CHURCH ATTACK SHOULD BE HAND OVERED TO CBI and all cases pertaining to attacks,if pending, against victims should be withdrawn. Culprits should be identified and sent to jail.
