Bangkok university honours Moily for making Bangalore an IT hub

Bangkok, May 24 (PTI):
Union Minister Veerapa Moily was presented with a "Global Citizen Award" by an university here for his role in transforming Bangalore as a global IT hub during his tenure as Karnataka Chief Minister.

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), presented the award to the Minister who was chief guest at the university's graduation ceremony yesterday.

The award was presented to him by the university's chairman, Nopadol Gunavibool.

"The Institute has created an "AIT Global Citizen Award" to honour prominent individuals and personalities who have contributed towards this cause," said Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, acting president of AIT.

Reading the citation for honouring the Minister, the Institute's Vice President for Academic Affairs, Sivanappan Kumar remarked that Moily’s contribution in promoting India and particularly the city of Bangalore as a global destination for the IT industry has helped the city emerge as the "Silicon Valley of India".

"His efforts as Chief Minister of Karnataka, has contributed to Bangalore becoming a global city with major international IT companies establishing their offices in the city," he said.

The AIT Global Citizen Award has been instituted to honour prominent individuals and personalities who have contributed towards "internationality", said a statemment issued by the university.

AIT is known practicing multiculturalism and internationality much before the term acquired prominence, the statement added.

Dear Naiem, plz correct your information. This is an inaugural award conferred to Moily. So no way Tata comes in picture. AIT is only 'OIL MASSAGE" ing our oil minister. Why all these awards are given away to the ministers when they are in power ? Its only to get some favour in return. And the credit of 'Silicon Valley' must goes to all former CMs from Heggade to Shettar.

Dear Satish , maybe the wording i used was wrong . Many noble and famous personalities have been conferred by AIT & Ratan Tata was one of them .

I dont see any point why they shall oil massage Mr.Moily , this university is very well funded . And is definetly one of the top colleges in SE Asia .

Mr.Moily was CM from 1992-1994 this was the time when foundations for IT boom in Bangalore was laid , so he definetly has some contribution for sure .

CET is initiated by Mr Hegade not by Moily, Again Moily has no contributions in Making Blore as IT Hub, SM Krishna played bigger role, Moily is intellectual,Well read , writer, Good Lawyer, beyond doubt, he deserves honor but not for subject reason.I remember he was troubled by his congress colleagues when he was CM. He had no time to perform, As an MLA of Karkala his contribution was not upto the mark.

Lesslie Bai, Ghar ki Murghi Daal Baraabhar!! Government facilitates the development of IT & BT by giving subsidies and incentives to the Operators like Mr. Murthy or Premji or Mazumdar etc etc. Hence Government's initiative always counts.

YOU PRAISE ME AND I PRAISE YOU.
THESE UNHEARD OF PLACES HAVE NO BUSINESS TO JUDGE PEOPLE WHOM THEY DO NOT KNOW.
BANGALORE BECAME A IT HUB NOT BECAUSE OF CORRUPT POLITICIANS.
IT IS BECAUSE OF HONEST AND UPRIGHT PEOPLE LIKE MR. MURTHY.
IT WAS A CITIZEN MOVEMENT AND NOT A POLITICAL INITIATIVE.

Leslie , do you have any idea what AIT university is ??Do you even have any idea of the past recepeints of this award ?? Ratan Tata was one of them !!

If AIT has given the award then definetly they have done their research on this matter on this award ! There would have been some contribution from Moily !!

Yes Mr.Murthy , Azeem Premji were influential in making Bangalore IT city , But accept the fact that without help of able politicians it would have been much difficult to do so !!
