Bangalore, May 25: Students aspiring to join professional engineering and medical courses in Karnataka as well as their parents need not worry about hike in fees at least for this year.

The fees for medical, dental, ayurvedic and engineering courses in the State’s private and government colleges will be the same as in last year, according to Medical Education Minister R V Deshpande.

The results will be announced across Karnataka on Tuesday (May 28) at 4 pm.

Nearly 1.40 lakh students appeared for the CET on May 1, 2 and 3.

Deshpande also announced that last year’s seat matrix would continue for 2013-14.

The Karnataka Examination Authority conducted the CET test for admission of students for professional courses such as medical, dental, engineering, ayurvedic for the year 2013-14, Rajneesh Goel, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department .

The seating sharing ratio in medical last year was 40:60, engineering 45:55 and dental 35:65.

The seat-sharing ratio in minority institutions last year was 25:75 for medical, engineering – 40:60 and dental – 25:75.

A second meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday with Minister of State for Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil and Higher Education and Tourism Minister R V Deshpande has successfully resolved the imbroglio over admission of student for PG courses also.

Representatives of private college managements also attended the meeting.

With six days to go for completion of admission for postgraduate medical courses in the State, the Government has decided to continue the consensual agreement entered into between the Government and the Private Unaided Educational Institutions for admissions in 2013-14.

The Supreme Court, in its order on May 13, said that the last date for admissions for PG medical courses will be May 31.

Seeking more time for the last date for admission, the Government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court and it would come up for hearing on Monday, Patil said.

Counselling for postgraduate medical and dental seats for candidates who qualified in the Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET) conducted by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), would begin on May 26.

Counseling would be held for PG dental seats and on May 27 and 28 for medical seats, Patil told presspersons.

Welcome Govt stand in taking the first step to keep professional Courses affordable to every aspiring student of the state. However, they still remain high and not reachable to economically backward groups. There is a need to open more government or government aided professional Colleges/Institutions in order to tap 100% aspirants. Our priorities of the day, affordable higher education facilities, infrastructure development, employment opportunities and better living standards. Educate India for developed India of tomorrow.

Congrats, Siddu and team. Students are vexed on this issue as PG students are waiting for long for Supreme Court verdict.

But the team should advise the concerned to take care of mesh created in CET physics paper as more than 10 errors were there in CET physics 2013 question paper and it would adversely affect the medical/engineering seat aspirants if it is not suitably compensated.

If they have reduced the fee and increased govt.quota, then we can call it an encouraging step. Here they are following same BJP guidelines of last year.
