Mangalore: Women in guise of customers pocket diamonds worth Rs 7 lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Jun 2: In a daring theft, two women pretending to be customers fleeced a jewellery store of diamond bangles worth Rs 7 lac.

The incident took place at Tanishq jewellery store at Balmatta here on Saturday June 1.

It is said that two women came in the guise of customers at around 2 pm and asked the salesman to show them gold bangles. The saleman handed over the bangles to the women, who turned them over and over to check the design. They also talked to the salesman and diverted his attention, and at the same time, allegedly slipped in two diamond bangles without anyone's notice.

The theft came to light only after the women had left the store, when the salesman realized that two diamond bangles had gone missing.

Of the two women, one was wearing a yellow churidar while the other one was dressed in coffee coloured churidar. The CCTV recorded their images.

It is learnt that before they came to Tanishq, the women tried to steal gold ornaments from two other jewellery stores in the city.

About 6 months back, a similar theft had occured at another jewellery store in the city.

Bunder police have registered a case and investigation is on.

Dear Simple, what you tried to explain in 100 plus words I tried to communicate in ten. You din't like it? It is fine. Many did not like. I am also waiting for a safer Mangalore. Ask yourself a question
Don't you feel bored (sometimes) to blame anything and everything on BJP / Sangh pariwar / sene/ vedike etc?
I am not supporting their condemnable acts but at the same time how long people (including you in this case) should continue bashing these outfits even if there is no involvement? I have read my comments again which in no way suggest the falling standards of debate. I have commented in the past that I have reserved my right of criticizing the wrongdoings of BJP and associates which unfortunately 'die-hard' congress fans never do.
    thanks for your comments

The incident is very unfortunate. Slip ups can happen anywhere. I Pity the shop keepers. I hope the culprits are found and punished severely. Any ways I do not understand why people resort to political party bashing in these forums, when such sensitive news is published rather than at least empathizing with the victims. These guys would realise only when there home/shop is burgled. Its time we grow up rather than resort to cheap antics on venting our personal frustration on a news paper forum.

Even though the picture of Thieves is available on CCTV still it is doubtful whether Mangalore Police can catch them. Because few months back the " Iraani gangs " of Gulbarga cheated many old ladies of Mangalore disguising as Policemen, and the picture of one such thief was available on the CCTV of Infosys, and our Police instead of going to Gulbarge & Bidar to search the thieves, they went to north India in search of iraani thieves. (Probably police went for pilgrimage at govt expenses !).

The sales person should be well trained not only in good salesman ship but also proper vigilence over the customers movements.

How the salesman can take his duty so easy, when expensive things were under his custody/care.

Further investigation will prove the right aspect.

Famous showroom with expensive jewelries should have better surveillance system to focus on the activities of suspected customers. Partly the salesman has to be blamed for being so loose while dealing with lakhs worth diamond bangles and other jewelries.
The hospitality section of the showroom should keep a tab on all the customers and any customers are not allowed to leave the premises until the salesmen keep the jewelries back in the racks.

So, we could not read such shocking news in Daijiworld, immediately. These two daring female thieves do not seem to be Local Mangaloreans. So, Congi & BJP supporters chiding each other in Daiji is meaningless.

On this Thursday I met an Industrialist from Bangalore. He is from Kanakapura originally. While speaking to him, he realized that I am from Mangalore side from my Kannada accent. Later he told me this incident which happened couple of years back.

"I am an Industrialist. Our products are sold across Karnataka and India. I have more customers in Mangalore and hence I visit Mangalore at least 4-5 times in a month. Once I lost my wallet in Mangalore, it had 4500 rs cash and 9 cards. I searched in all the places I visited in Mangalore, but no luck. I returned back to Bangalore and told this to my friends. They said, since I lost purse in Mangalore, I will get it back for sure. After a week I received a call from a lady and yes she had got my purse. She returned to me safely. I was worried about the misuse of cards, but nothing has happened. I am grateful to people of Mangalore'

After hearing this I felt really proud. Surely everyone here will be..! That is the respect coastal people carry across Karnataka. But are we slowly losing this...?????

No theft shall take place if the salesman is alert with vision like hawk eye. He has to ensure the count of bangles which he displayed before the (dhongi) customers leave the shop. This service is just like Munaf Patel delivering loose balls to loose the entire match!!!!!!!!

Yes & the positioning of camera should be in such a way it captures the face without the angled positions we see in most shops.
Mangaloreans are not involved in these thefts, but outsiders targeting unsuspecting jewellery stores, just like more outside sellers have set shop in Mangalore, as demand here is more for gold.

    Learned lot giving opinions..!!!
(are those opinions a bit below par?)
If I had made such remarks, it is understandable... but guys like SS\eskey commenting the way they did - standard is falling...

Mangalore is becoming safer (not yet completely safe) from attacks of BD\RS and the likes - on innocent people & others - less nuisance from those guys which makes the city safer\peaceful
    Robbing\stealing will go on.
It could be the work of those jobless sene goondas employing ladies to do the work as the funding from their masters has dwindled to just a trickle. They have to survive and with no education and goondagiri as experience, they are jobless right now unless again their godfathers think of creating some unrest here and there for their employment.
