Mangalore: Young athlete Itihas Shetty (20) dies in car accident

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Jun 9 : An accident in the wee hours of Sunday June 9 claimed the life of young athlete Ithihas Shetty (20), a second year engineering student of St Joseph's Engineering College, Mangalore.

The deceased, Ithihas Shetty was a state level sprinter and a TT player who represented his school/college in High School and College. He was also the school people leader at St Aloysius Primary School and was quite popular during his school/college days.

The accident occurred on Kadri Park Road near Bal Bhavan when the car he was travelling lost control and swirled hitting the pillar of the compound wall of the building and died on the way to the hospital.

According to reliable sources Ithihas was driving the car with three other TT players with him and was returning from a match practice. The other two boys escaped with minor injuries, it is learnt.

On the Kadri Park road he lost control of the vehicle as there was water logging due to heavy rain and his car hit the compound wall pillar from the driver’s side. The pillar of the compound wall had had almost pierced the front door of the car which must have proved fatal for Ithihas.

His athletic coach Dinesh Kunder expressed shock and dismay at the death of this young athlete saying he was a promising athlete and TT player who was very focused and quite talented.

A young and promising life withered away before it could bloom and spread its fragrance.

Kadri police arrived at the spot and registered a case.

Rest in Peace Ithihas. what a smart and talented boy, what a loss to the family and society.
I knew this boy from the last 15 years, so full of life and one smile of his would make us all happy. A sports person, school head boy etc, so many credits to talk about. It is sad how, in spite of being a very careful and good driver got carried away by the company of immature people, who provoked him to drive fast on a rainy night. It is sad to know, that in spite of an elderly lady being in the car, she dint bother to stop the boys instead enjoyed the drive.

Its definitely not any boys fault in the car, its their age to do mischievous things, especially when they have the support of the elders. Its really sad to know how his fate went against him. And i hope people responsible for it, at least realise how they claimed a precious life . May God give the father, mother and sister and rest of the family members the strength to face the reality and be strong.

May his soul rest in peace and condolences to his family.
No doubt we live in the worst conditions in our country. But knowing that our system, our law ,our governance etc has no faith to the public isn't it necessary for us to be on a safe side , cautious while driving ????????. If I am cautious, I am safe and that will keep others on the road safe . Drive safe. Live and let live.
This lad lost control and hit a wall, just imagine there were humans instead ???????????? Let it not be that later...... Good Day

Doreen without much ado may I repeat ,comment in the right perspective, blame the right person.
A car travels from the left. side of the road and bangs a wall on the right side.
Logged Water, on the road acts as a brake not accelerator.
How many accidents can you report from here due to bad road.
Don't simply blame the corporation etc !

This is very sad that such a young life be lost in such a manner. The municipal corporation needs to take part of the blame for not providing decent roads. The traffic police for not making road safety a priority. There are rules which are made to be followed, but alas not implemented. It does not appear to me that the boy was speeding, so defintely the bad roads to be blamed. It is so sad that it makes me want to cry. My heart goes out to those parents. May God grant them the strength to come to grips with this tragedy. May his soul rest in peace.

Young generation (Even me when I was young) do not care for life and the speed of the vehicle will be more than that could be controlled. Sometimes people get a warning by the way of a mild accident, many are unlucky to get warnings.

What i'm trying to say is if he was within his speed limit he would have at least survived the crash.. but anyways its destiny.
