Mangalore: Tulu Sahitya Academy announces Honorary, Book Awards

Mangalore, Jun 13: The Honorary and Book Awards instituted by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy for the year 2012 were announced by registrar Chandrahas Rai and administrative officer B T Munirajayya on Wednesday June 12.

The Honorary Award consists of a cash prize of Rs 10,000, memento and certificate and the Book Award consists of Rs 5,000 cash prize, memento, and certificate. The awards will be given away either on the last week of June or first week of July, stated a release.

Honorary Awards will be conferred on Jayanthi S Bangera, Rohidas Kadri and Richard Castelino.

Jayanthi S Bangera: Having rendered immense service in Tulu literature, Jayanthi S was the first recipient of the woman award in 1979 for her book ‘Ennandi Bhagya’. She has also published various books like ‘Manas Badlanaga’, 'Satya Negapunaga', 'Sorageda Pu', 'Neeli Kadalda Naduttu', 'Gori', 'Gaggara' and written various dramas like 'Artha Avandi Pathera', 'Savitana Madme', 'Poojeda Pu', 'Binnere Gouji' and 'Maapu Malpale'. She has also brought out quarterly magazine called ‘Udal’.

Rohidas Kadri: Having been a part of the Tulu stage for a long time, Rohitdas has rendered his service in theatre and cinema for more than 55 years.

Richard Castelino: Being in the field of cinema, Richard Castelino has presented drama and musical nites in India as well as abroad in Tulu, Kannada and Konkani languages. He was the producer and director of 'Nyayagadh Yenna Badk', 'Badhi', 'Bangar Patler' Tulu movies. He also has the distinction of producing and directing ‘September 5’ Tulu movie in just 24 hours. 'Bangar Patler' movie had bagged the best regional cinema award.


Book Awards

The book awards for the year 2012 will be conferred on K A Radhakrishna for his ‘Satyappa Balelu’ (story compilation), Seemantooru Chandrahas Suvarna for ‘Koral’ (poetry anthology) and Ramanath Kotekar for ‘Tulunadina Billawaru’ (Tulu research).
