Bangalore: State ministry decides to withdraw case against Soorinje

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jun 14: The state cabinet which met on Thursday June 13, decided to withdraw a criminal case standing against Kasturi TV journalist, Naveen Soorinje. Soorinje, who was arrested on November 7, 2012 in connection with the infamous Homestay attack case in Mangalore, was released on bail on March 23 this year.

A case under different sections relating to indecent portrayal of women, abetment of offences like outraging modesty of women, dacoity, etc was slapped on Soorinje by the policemen. Sharan, a Sahaya TV cameraman, was also accused of these offences.

After his bail pleas got repeatedly rejected, the state High Court had granted bail to Naveen Soorinje on March 18 this year.

Law minister, T B Jayachandra, said that the meeting also gave its nod to bring 110 more services falling under various departments under the ‘Sakala’ scheme of the state government. He added that the meeting gave its consent to a draft bill to bring amendments to Civil Services Act – 1957 to help curb sexual harassment of women in government offices.

Among several other things, the meeting also decided to dismiss deputy controller in the department of legal metrology, C M Mallikarjuna, who was raided by the Lokayukta, from service, it is learnt.

It may be noted that advocate M P Amruthesh had filed a public interest litigation in the state high court on February 6, challenging the state cabinet's January 31 decision to withdraw case standing against Soorinje. One of the reasons cited in the petition was that none of the courts had entertained the bail plea filed by the journalist. But the state High Court had, based on an affidavit that Soorinje was not involved with illegal activities at the venue, granted bail to him thereafter.

It also transpired that the then chief minister, Jagadish Shettar, had not signed the final order in consonance with the cabinet decision to withdraw case against Soorinje, and hence the proposal was put up afresh.

Few questions hope to get the answer.
If the false charges framed against Mr Soorinje the question is Who framed them and under ths instructions of Whom? If the charges are false as it is clear when Mr Soorinje gets releaved from the responsible people for putting him under stress, behind bar and obstructing journalist work and framing false charges should be booked immediately and put behind the bars.... This is worst than criminal case...slaping false cases against innocents... May be people of Mangalore needs to unite again in protest to book the irresponsible persons and the hidden rats behind this act of slapping false charges against Mr Soorinje. Wake up ministers and wake up people of mangalore... lets liberate mangalore from these rats!!!

Just cancelling the case is not sufficient. Punish those who registered the case against him...!! If he is innocent, the police officers who have registered the case are at fault. Throw them out of police department...They are not fit to be in the police department!!!

    Dinesh Poojary,
these were your comments for the news published on Jan 31 in which the State Government decided to withdraw cases against Mr Navin Soorinje:
"State Govt showered MERCY on him. Now he should become RESPONSIBLE MEDIA REPORTER, should not listen to congress politicians.

    BTW, Congratulations."
How come all of a sudden, it becomes the Congress game?

BJP had slapped false cases under instigation of then caretaker minister on Navin.
He got relief by this government, while the previous had acted like withdrawing & not doing so.
BJP had suspended or transferred Police personnel for not showing bias & carrying out duties as well.
Navin's mistake was unravelling the TRUTH of immoral policing- but he succeeded in forming(galvanizing) voters opinion against undemocratic rulers who were thrown out by peoples power.

Henceforth TV Journalists may be busy taking snap shots or video shooting on acts as beating, moral policing, etc., than informing the police, as this act of state govt. gives a message of liberty to media.
Something more importance to TRP than informing police or efforts to stop such insidences.

Dear Bhandarkar I appreciate your view not to insult Vande Matharum.I know the vande matharum like any other prayers which we use to sing in the class rooms which were run by Catholic institution. later it became a issue and went in went different directions.
Try to beat up a boy to punish he will get more agitated latter after getting insulted.Be it a human being ,be it a religion or a national song should not be insulted. In the interest of nation and peaceful living nothing should be insulted..

Dear MR NAVIN SOORINJE,Congrats on being free 'DONGI CASES'(ROBBERY!SEXUAL HARASSMENT!!) slapped by then BJP govt and their CHELAS.

It is big irony that those police officials who are dancing tune of then BJP Govt Chelas still in service!!!!They should be deported from Mangalore with immediate effect.THE WAY SOORINJE WAS AMBUSHED BY POLICE WHILE RETURNING FROM PRESS RELATED JOB CERTAINLY NEEDS ALL ROUND CONDEMNATION FROM THE CITIZEN."THE AMBUSH WAS JUST LIKE CORNERING TERRORISTS"

As CM reiterated time and again against moral policing, the first action from the Govt should be shunting police officials who has docked in Mangalore more than 3-4 years.Dear Soorinje, continue with your good work and report pros and cons this govt also and your fight against MORAL POLICING particularly in Managalore is appreciable.

Our media should be more responsible. But unfortunately most of our media diverts and look into their TR. They silently see the crime and shoot it but never inform to police. This should be stopped.

This is otherwise licence/approval for phot/TV journalists to shoot snaps of incidents like moral policing/goonda acts/robbery/dacoity etc., for increasing TRP.Henceforth they will not be accusee/made accountable for anti social acts being clicked.Only other citizens to inform police!
