Mangalore/Kundapur, Jun 19: Two persons were electrocuted in separate incidents on Tuesday June 18.

Sunanda Bhandary (52), wife of the late Pramod Bhandary, resident of Bhoojakshi Nilaya near Pumpwell, Ujjodi in the city, breathed her last after electricity passed through her body.

It is said that Sunanda was electrocuted as soon as she put on the grinder switch at her home on for wet grinding. She is survived by son, Avinash, who works as an engineer for Mescom, and daughger, Jyotsna, who has been married off. Sunanda''s husband, Pramod, too worked for Karnataka Electricity Board, it is learnt.

On Tuesday, Avinash came home from work and rang the doorbell. As his mother did not respond for a long priod, he peeped through the window and saw that Sunanda was lying on the floor, and the wet grinder was running. He broke open the door thereafter, and with the help of others, arranged for shifting the body to a hospital.

In another incident, Prashant Kulal (22), son of Narayan Kulal from Kumbaramakki Jeddu, Kolkebail,Shiriyara village in Kundapur taluk, died instantly after coming into contact with live wire.

Prashant, after completion of his education in ITI, had begun working as an assistant for an electrical contractor named Eshwar. On Tuesday morning, Eshwar had called Prashant for providing power re-connection to the lower primary school at Shiriyara, as its service wire had snapped.

Prashant, who began to work on the job without checking whether electricity was flowing or not, was electrocuted.

He was the only son of his Narayan Kulal. A report in this respect was filed in Kota police station.

    IT is sad incident. RIP.
Dr.Kiran VSA, Udupi. I don't think MESCOM held responsible for both the incidents. 1st is electricity leakage from grinder/motor. The grinder is property of the end user and shall maintain it properly by annually motor winding varnishing, earth connection verification ete.
2nd is service wire snapped. Service wire between MESCOM pole to the end user premises. This job is of MESCOM line man not by local contractor. Yes for 1st incident, if ELCB was installed would have been avoided.

MESCOM has to pay the compensation. What a tragedy, husband and son working for MESCOM ! ELCB is a must.

MESCOM shall make it mandatory to install ELCB (Earth leakage circuit breaker) to each and every house so that electrocution can be prevented.

    Very Strage...
Women who electrocuted..her husband working for Electricity Board..
Young person who died also connected to electricity as one subject in ITI...
It once again proved..death occurs anytime to anybody..eventhough taken 'precaution'...
