Bangalore: High profile chain snatchers travelling by air land in police net

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jun 19: Two persons, who used to visit the city every two weeks for snatching away chains from the necks of woman, and go back to their homes in Uttar Pradesh, have been nabbed by the local police.

They have been identified as Vicky Singh alias Vicky (33), and Vishal Singh (23), both from Dauki in Agra district, Uttar Pradesh. 1.007 kg of gold valued at around Rs 30 lac was found hidden inside the fan inside their lodge room.

Both these thieves were in the habit of reaching New Delhi from Agra and then fly into the city once in two weeks. They used to park a Pulsar motor bike  bearing Mumbai registration number at KSRTC bus stand parking lot. By using this bike, they roamed around the city, snatched away chains from women found to be alone, before reaching back their lodge in either Majestic or Shivajinagar area, and flying back, said additional police commissioner, Kamal Pant. The stolen gold was sold in Agra or New Delhi.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday June 18, Pant said every visit of the thieves to the city lasted for two to three days.

Pant said that the thieves chose KSRTC parking lot as they thought no one will grow suspicious about their movements there. The city police had received 22 chain snatching complaints against people resembling the descriptions of the accused. The policemen grew suspicious after watching the movement of this bike in the CCTV in KSRTC bus stand, after which they made enquiries with the parking operators, and then followed the motor bike when the thieves came here.

In the past too, several such high profile thieves making air travel had been held by the city police.

Seeing the pictures it looks like police are more interested in showing their achievement, rather than showing who the thieves are, so that people can identify them the next time.

May I request you Additional police commissioner, how about exposing these criminals to the public.Chain snatching business is a big menace which cannot be eliminated by the police alone. The snatcher normally uses a two wheeler which has an easy getaway. They target a single woman as they are very fragile. The technique used by them is very easy compared with big robberies which are risky. To avoid such things the responsibility lies with the person wearing jewelry while going alone. The police dept and media should have a public announcement on TV/newspapers/radio, especially for the ladies how to protect themselves from these chain snatching menace.

Lot of robbery and thieves in Mangalore. Residents are not safe and are afraid to wear jwellery those wearing artificial ones are also scared if these thieves will harm them!!! Mangalore should have more Policemen on Duty and should appoint 2 Policemen at every important location. In useless locations Policemen are standing but no use. The thieves caught should be sentenced to life prison. Hope they are not FREED IN LIFE...they have ruined many innocent lifes of mangaloreans...MANGALORE SHOULD NOW ACT SMART!!!

Mr.Prabhu..your comment reminded me of one incident at Bangalore airport (20years ago).A professional chain snatcher was caught by police and when asked,he told them that usually, he targetted people at bus stand, but once he went to Bangalore airport(thinking that he could earn more). There he pickpocketed one politician who came to receive Minister.Unfortunately, only Rs.100/- was inside the wallet.Next day,in the news paper it appeared that MLA lost Rs.2000/- because of pick pocketer !!
