Kasargod: Hike in KSRTC bus fare proves burdensome for commuters

Kasargod, Jun 22: The hike in bus fare imposed by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) for their buses plying between Mangalore and Kasargod has given rise to problems for people who regularly travel through these buses on this route.

After KSRTC decided to unilaterally increase its ticket prices on this route a week back, people living on Karnataka-Kerala border find travel through these buses unaffordable. At the same time, private buses plying on this route have not made any changes in their charges.

While Kerala government buses charge about Rs 40 for travel between Kasargod and Mangalore, Karnataka buses collect Rs 45 for the same journey. This has made the commuters to shell out different rates for different buses. Karnataka buses charge stage-wise rates till Kerala border, Talapady. They however, have not affected any increase in bus fare between Talapady and Kasargod, and hence, have retained the fares that are equal to the ones charged by Kerala buses on this stretch.

It is learnt that Kerala government buses will also affect a hike in fares, once the corporation issues a circular for the same. Once that happens, fares charged by both government buses will be on par.

The financial burden has become particularly heavy for hundreds students, employed persons, labourers, and others who use these buses daily. There has been a widespread resentment against the steep hike in the bus fares by Karnataka government buses. The student communities as well as passengers living in the border areas are particularly affected by the hike because of non-extension of thebenefit of concessional fare to students and shortage of private buses. They have therefore, urged Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation to lessen their burden by lowering the fare to the previous level at the earliest.

The equation for price rise is simple. It all goes with the rate of inflation. Workers want more salaries, better benefits.. same applies to service providers. Cost of services increase and to compensate it, they have to increase the service charges.

I do not know though the common man doesn't understand this simple rule, how many of you agree with me?

Consider this too, KSRTC is not a profit making public service provider.

Surface transport sector is still under evolution mode.
Is it a sacrifice, punishment or charity that we need to start our millions of vehicles from a standstill position, pull it by force till the destination, by carrying millions of tons of weight like infants and handicaps?
Why cannot we use enormous weight on wheels (of commuters and goods which we move everyday) as a pushing force, which not only can save considerable energy (fuel), but it is an opportunity to generate energy also (like electricity from waterfalls)?
The health hazardous air pollution and sound peace disturbing sound pollution can be eliminated.
Why cannot we come out from a lengthy evolution of automobiles, which is facing severe drawbacks?

This is the impact of famous Congi Packages “Akki & Thotte” d by “Khujlee and Kumbhakarna CM”. They have no other option but to increase the price of the ticket so they can compensate the budget deficit due to free Rice delivery. Most of the people justify the increase by giving crude oil price and rupees depreciation. But little did they understand that, once increased, price will never come down even if the crude oil price comes down in future.

Mr. Shetty.. what about previous government's deficit? Bottom line is people of Karnataka have to face the brunt due to mismanagement of previous BJP Government. If previous government has done good for the state, then there is no need to hike prices. If BJP had come to power again, then we would have been slaves. So people have made a wise decision to kick out BJP from state.

Exactly Reshmijee, previous BJP tried their level best to clean the garbage compiled by Congress Government for many decades in just 1 to 2 years and in the 3rd year, few BJP Leaders got tired of garbage cleaning and went to “Resort for relaxation” and 4th & 5th year they started implementing few famous schemes which will be again reviewed by your Congress Government for nothing. What you see now, Moral Police Members gone hiding but morality of present Congress Government is very low now due to …………….. you know. Correct Mr. Tom?

Before BJP came to power, it was JDS with the help of BJP was ruling the state. Correct your facts Mr. Shetty and then comment. We know who is good and who is bad. People of Karnataka are wise enough to elect the government of their choice.
