Mangalore, Jun 24: “Plans are afoot to set up an LNG (liquified natural gas) terminal in this district shortly, and as discussed, the foundation stone for this project will be laid in September,” said union minister for petroleum and natural gas Dr Veerappa Moily.

Addressing media persons during his visit to the district Congress office here on Monday June 24, Moily said that encouragement and support will be given to various industries so that more people get employment opportunities.

“People have chosen us (Congress) because they need change. Hence, we have to correct past mistakes and work towards cleaning up all immoral practices in the district. In this regard, MLAs, corporators, and other representatives should hold a meeting and discuss what best we can give to the public,” he said, addressing the party workers.

“Out of the 13 constituencies in the district, 10 MLAs have emerged as winners and among them four have been appointed ministers. With this, our responsibilities towards people have increased and we should see to it that there is no compromise in law.”

He asked the elected representatives to start their work, assuring them all support from his side and said that the party should not lose the trust of the people.

About the Uttarakhand tragedy, he said measures will be taken to restore the heritage of the place and asked people to contribute to this cause. "Tomorrow, there will be a meeting with the oil companies in Delhi where their support will be sought for this cause,” he added.

Forest and district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai said, “When it comes to social justice and development, it is the Congress party which took the initiative in the district. Various mega projects like roads, cargo service at the airport, passport office, and several others in the district have been made possible by the efforts of our government.”

“It is the Congress which treated people of all religions as equal and it is now our duty to do good work and take the right step as per people’s expectations,” he added.

Fisheries minister Abhayachandra Jain, MLA Mohiuddin Bava, Ivan D’Souza, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Mohammed Masood, Mamata Gatti, Suresh Ballal, Denis D’Silva, Praveen Chandra Alva, Ibrahim Kodijal, and T K Sudheer were present.
