Mumbai, Jan 18: A 45-year-old woman was run over and killed by a speeding taxi, and her husband injured in the accident at Wadala early Tuesday morning.

A relative’s child and another couple of their relatives were also hurt in the incident.

Suman and Ramdas Dole (50) had come to the city from Akola a few days ago to be with their daughter who is pregnant.

They were sleeping on the road outside their hut which is on the footpath opposite a branch of the Bank of Baroda.

Ramdas is in a critical condition at KEM Hospital.

Five-year-old Seetaram Sapkal who was asleep on the pavement along with his grandmother, is being treated at the hospital for injuries on the face and ears.

Bhika Medhe (30) has suffered a skull fracture and his wife Bhagarda (25) has minor head injuries which has caused serious giddiness.

They came to the city about a month ago from Buldana, after the drought made things difficult.

‘‘Our village has no water. We’ve been searching for work for about a month now,’’ said Bhika.

Neighbours rushed out on hearing the screams of the victims. They, however, could not get the number of the taxi.

A sub-inspector of RAK Marg police, who was at the hospital, did not appear to be taking much interest in the case.
