Bangalore, Jul 2: Perturbed at the alleged complaints of rampant corruption in the delivery of services in government health facilities, Karnataka Lokayukta Y Bhaskar Rao has asked doctors and health personnel to shun corruption and malpractices while providing treatment to patients.

He was interacting with doctors, para-medical staff and technicians of the Health Department, district and taluk level hospitals in Bangalore on Tuesday.

The Health and family welfare department had organised the interactive programme with the Lokayukta and two Upa Lokayuktas at the Vikas Soudha, for the first time, to exchange views on numerous issues in delivery of health care. Upa Lokayuktas Justice B Majjage and Justice Subhash B Adi were also present.

Rao said service delivery at the government hospitals was far from satisfactory on account of involvement of medical and non-medical personnel in irregularities and corruption.

Doctors should treat the profession for service oriented and turn away from receiving bribes and gifts from patients visit hospital for treatment.

The centre and state governments have been allocating adequate funds to ensure quality health service to all people visiting hospitals for receiving treatment.

Instead of treating patients, doctors recommend private hospitals for better service, he said pointing out that it was a great disservice for the people.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader told doctors and staff of the department to change their mindset and attitudes while providing services to the poor and the public.

Even the private doctors in Mangalore are avoiding Tax by taking their charges in cash in addition to whatever the Hospital Bill. They demand this immediately after the operation and patients have no other option than pay up.

Something need to be done with practice.

We have to tell the Doctors to serve the public, where as the Judiciary system will continue squeezing the pockets of general public by postponing, postponing, postponing .........the cases indefinitely. and wasting the time on announcing the postponement of cases. Preaching is very easy but difficult to practice, Again the million dollar question, who is not married to CORRUPTION.

Sir,the government hospitals are functioning and treating the patients only if they pay them heavy bribe. In fact salary income has become secondary income for them and corruption income has become the major earning. You may have to deal with them tough to remind them that their duties is to help the public without expecting anything.Hope, yoou do the needful.Thanq.
