Mumbai, Jan 23: The Infant Jesus Feast was held in a solemn manner in Mira Road on Sunday. Thousands of devotees from all over Mumbai attended the week-long novenas held in preparation of the feast with the theme of Eucharist.
Also more than 5000 people went in procession chanting hymns in the streets of Mira Road. It was an eye-catching and inspiring event.
Forty communities of the parish along with 22 associations marched in groups holding banners. The whole locality of Mira Road was watching this ocean of people moving in the streets. The procession was led by a band along, and a relic of Infant Jesus was carried.
The main celebrant of the solemn Mass was a great preacher Fr Erasto Fernandes. Parish priest Fr. Rudolf D'Souza, Fr.Elias D'Souza and Fr Boniface D'Souza concelebrated the mass.
Mira Road parish, also known as 'Mini Mangalore' is predominantly made of a Konkani-speaking crowd. After the rain havoc in Mumbai, more than 600 families have moved from Malad and other parts of Mumbai to this place. Hundreds of families are being settling down every month.
This parish has already gone up to second position in terms of number of families in Mumbai and there are all signs that it will stand first within the next few years.
With the efforts of F. Rudolf, the community spirit amongst the parishioners is overwhelming. Fr Rudolf with his team is striving to build families of love, peace, joy and brotherhood. Mira Road is also on the way to becoming a famous pilgrim centre.
