MUMBAI, Jan 28: The case of suspended Sub-Inspector Daya Nayak, being heard in the court of Sessions Judge SP Mahajan, took a new turn on Friday when his lawyer read out a letter written by Nayak to Police Commissioner AN Roy and Director General of Police, Anti-Corruption Bureau, J Virkar.
The lawyer, Shirish Gupte, told DNA that in the letter Nayak has accused the ACB officers investigating the case of leaking information to the press. “There has been a campaign of giving news items against me in the newspapers,” he wrote.
“I’m surprised that reports of your office have been published by journalists who claimed these were supplied by an investigation officer. Similarly, reports of the crime branch are also being made public.”
Elsewhere, he wrote, “I have suffered a lot because of allegations made without proper investigation. People are being made to believe that I own luxurious flats, companies, and travel agencies and my worth is shown over Rs4 crore.”
Nayak wrote that the officers are doing this to ruin his image because he was a hurdle in the way of their illegal activities. “If I was worth Rs4 crore or more, I would have left the police service and not continued to stay in the police quarters,” he wrote.
He alleged that there is a conspiracy to get him out of the police. “Except underworld dons who will be after my blood?” he asks.
