Mangalore: Independence Day celebrated at Lourdes School

Mangalore, Aug 15: The staff, students and parents of Lourdes Central School gathered to celebrate the 67th Independence Day of our nation, on Thursday August 15, at 8 am at LCS open ground.

Brigadier I N Rai, the chief guest of the day along with the school band was escorted by Fr Dr Victor Machado, manager of LCS, Fr Michael Lobo, principal of LCS, LCS coordinators, management committee members, Vaikunt Prabhu, PTA president and Augustine Rodrigues, vice president of parish pastoral parishad, Bejai.

The programme began with a national song “Vande Mataram”. The principal welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. 

To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, the chief guest unfurled the tricolor flag and all in unison sang the national anthem and expressed the joy of freedom.

On this auspicious day, the chief guest, a proud son of Mother India who had fought bravely in the Indo- Pak War of 1971 and in the war of Kargil, served the nation tirelessly for the past 34 years shared his views.

He said, “Our country which was under the foreign powers for centuries is now free and has a vision of becoming a super power because of the sacrifices of the martyrs and the army.” He also called the youth as the wealth and the hope of the nation who will lead the country and make it a great nation of the world.

Fr Dr Victor Machado, manager of LCS, in his presidential address said, “Freedom is a gift, a privilege and a challenge. It does not consist in doing what one wants to do but doing what is expected to do.”

To keep alive the flame of patriotism, the students from classes III to V performed a patriotic dance and the students of the Music Club rendered a patriotic song that awakened everyone’s feelings towards our motherland.

Shrutilal of class VIII shared her views on the significance of the day and highlighted the importance of the day, the students of class XII presented a tableau. 

Prateeksha K of class X proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated everyone for their wholehearted co-operation while the manager, presented a memento to the chief guest as a token of gratitude.

Meghan and Manhima of class VIII and class X respectively compered the program. 

At Lourdes Central School it was indeed a day of joy, love and respects for the country and the students urged to make India a better place for Indians to live and experience the freedom, peace and unity in diversity.
