Bangalore : Woman lay dead for four months in her bungalow

Bangalore, Aug 21 (NDTV): A 53-year-old woman lay dead in her sprawling bungalow in the heart of Bangalore for over four months, her body decomposed and half reduced to bones as not even close relatives visited her.

The police say Sheela Reddy may have starved to death in her two-storey home at least four or five months ago, a shocking irony in the Indiranagar colony, which is counted among the affluent parts of the IT-city.

Neighbours say Ms Reddy, a single woman, was upset that her family hadn't visited her for long. She had stopped going anywhere after her mother died a few months ago.

Some claimed she had a "medical condition" and was often seen walking around her house, mumbling to herself or screaming at people.

Such was her isolation, that her remains were found only when her brother Shankar Reddy came calling on Monday, after six months, and spotted her body through a window.

The police found no food in the house.

"We got to know of the death from the papers," said former Director General of Police MD Singh, who lives right opposite Ms Reddy's bungalow.

"If it is a single woman, there is not much we can do by way of interaction," said Mr Singh, when asked whether neighbours tried to help her.

A report quoted neighbours as saying they had complained of an overpowering stench from the house a few months ago, but the police dismissed it saying it could be a dead dog.

Neighbours said Ms Reddy never had visitors barring some relatives who came to give her food. Her parents reportedly owned large tracts of land in the area years ago.

Now every relative of Her will be there for the share of property.
A friend in USA told me once that a Friend will be there in time of need for good or bad.
A neighbor will be there in time of Wedding,Christening,Birthday or Funeral.
But He said that a relative will show up for share of fortune such as Bank Account,Property Movable and immovable on death.
Our culture is changing for from Family together to Family split. These kind of deaths are common in Western Countries and now We had to face the same episode.
I still remember the death of my friends in USA. One remained dead for 2 weeks until paper boy found him through window. Second went dead due to nephew robbed Him and injured died of starvation. Third Lady died due to Heart attack but found next day due to my alertness of finding Her missing. With help of my Police and Fireman friends found Her dead on Her bed.
This will be the future of Older People in our society, may be Us too.

Too Sad, But reality is women of this generation think they don't need men in their life and run towards carrier leaving everything behind only when old to be alone and become crazy and die alone.
I will not be surprised if more such cases come out.
@R.Bhandarkar Right you are. Lot to learn from this.

In the morning I read about an elderly once a rich woman editor was living on the streets somewhere in Mumbai & someone had to shelter her. Here in Bengaluru another rich lady died without having food unnoticed for about 4 months. Strange.. but true!! Whatever we have or we dont.. but death is with us 24/7 & can catch at anytime which is already written in fate! Neighbours or family members not not noticed nor visited her for this period of time.. imagine what kind of person she might have been? Anyway, now she's no more.. May her soul rest in peace!!
