Kasargod, Aug 31: The Kasargod police led by DySP P Mohanchandra have seized 46 kg of ganja and arrested two persons.

The arrested are identified as Ernakulam Palerivatta resident Sunil David (34) and Idukki resident M G Murali (42).

The two were arrested near Press Club junction in the city, while transporting ganja from Idukkipuzha to Kasargod in their Qualis car that had a Tamil Nadu registration number.

The police, who stopped the car after receiving reliable information, initially did not find anything in the vehicle. But after observing suspicious movements of the people in the car, the police questioned them. The accused confessed that they were indeed transporting ganja. The ganja, weighing 46 kg, was kept hidden in a specially made compartment inside the vehicle.

The arrested are said to be the middlemen. They had instructions to telephone the main dealers at Thodupuzha through their mobiles immediately after reaching there. The police are on the lookout for the main dealers.

The police have information that besides Idukki, a large amount of ganja gets transported from Andhra Pradesh. Ganja costing several crores of rupees had been seized by the police recently.

The ganja is being distributed by making the district campus as the center, say the police.
