Mangalore, Sep 19: Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), in association with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, has taken up a major initiative for waste segregation by classifying the waste and distributing waste bins to the public. The initiative was launched at Orchid Apartments, Arya Samaj Road, Balmatta hereon Thursday September 19.

The dustbins were distributed by Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo in a formal inaugural ceremony. The pamphlet spreading awareness on waste segregation was also released on this occasion.

Speaking after the distribution, Lobo said that with these type of initiatives, the MCC has given way to better developmental projects in the city. "Waste management is primarily needed for all those who produce waste. Better waste management is the need of the hour for better and safer surroundings,” he added.

“Mangalore was a clean city once, and as time passed, it has been going filthy and hence it is our duty to get back that same old clean and green city. We all dump waste in the bins which is then dumped in Pacchanady. But, we must think of the condition of the people who are living in Pachhanady. Biodegradable waste needs to be segregated and can also be used as fertilizer, instead of simply being dumped into waste bins, “ Lobo said.

Addressing the gathering, MCC Commissioner Ajith Hegde said that people have been getting attracted to lots of non-degradable items for their daily use. “We are addicted to plastics more than necessary. If we control our waste production, we can control the waste management,” he added.

Corporator for Court Ward, Vinayaraj A C also spoke on the occasion and urged the people to make proper use of these facilities provided by the MCC.

Big dustbins were provided to nearly 45 apartments in the surrounding area and small pairs of dustbins (yellow and green) are to be distributed to nearly 2,200 houses. In the first stage, dustbins were purchased for two wards, court wards, and Mannagudda ward. Later, this scheme will be introduced in other areas as well. The total cost of dustbins purchased is Rs 31 lac.

Laxman, environmental officer, Pollution Control Board, Pramila, deputy commissioner, (Revenue), Vinod Devasya, president, Orchid Apartment Welfare Association, and others were present. MCC inspector Madhu compered the programme.

There is another show to show off during next election to prove they have done something during their term. There are things these people could have showed such as:
    1. Open Garbage trucks over filled spilling garbage all the way to Moodshedde.
    2. Metal Garbage bins with holes as big as,a huge dog can crawl inside. These Bins are hauling garbage to Dump.
    3. Leaking foul filled unhealthy water or some liquid spilling out of garbage trucks all the way to Dump.
    4. Great looking picture of rotted garbage bins smelling next to Kadri Market behind Kanara Club(next to JR Lobos' KUDCEMP Building).
These great people could have showed above things, plus more for Public View instead of empty PVC Bins.

We can see lots of developments in and around Mangalore since congress Govt. has come into power. If they could do this within a short span of three months before the completion of their term their developmental achievements in mangalore will be 10 times that of the developments reported by Gujarath in their 10years term.
Let our mangalore city be clean and green forever under the CONG-I leaders.

This note for MLA J.R. Lobo :
Kindly introduce trucks that can pick up bins and dump the waste as per video http://youtu.be/OkUyqsQeqJM

This is how waste is collected each week from my home.
Black bins for : waste that can't be recycled.
Blue bins for metallic parts, plastics, carboard.

    Hence, 2 bins per household.

This is how garbage is collected from each house in Calgary and residences have been charged $10.00 per month.

Clean environment requires some strategy and strategy is to clean up and collect the waste and recycle the waste accordingly.

I'm sure MLA J.R. Lobo you will take note of this and save our environment.

Now how they are going to offload the garbage from those big green dust bins in to lorry? Someone has to carry and dump? With so much new ideas available in garbage collection skip we must implement them not old ideas. Best would be the metal garbage skips which can be carried by hydraulic side loader by a 3 ton pickup, where he can carry 2 at a time. Please send email of MCC where I can share my ideas
