He still has seven months of service left.

He took over as IGP of Mangalore in 2009 after infamous incidents like church attacks, pub attack etc. During his tenure he was able to maintain law and order situation in Mangalore.

He was appointed IGP (western range) on February 18, 2009, and then as ACP, Bangalore in August 2010. I have had the pleasure - I repeat pleasure of knowing this upright, sincere forthright and dedicated police officer during his tenure in Mangalore as the I.G.P. - Western range. During my meetings I had the privilege of introducing him to some of my close friends and all without exception they paid excellent tributes to this worthy Police Officer.

I do not know the reason for his asking for voluntary retirement and if he is allowed to leave the police force prematurely, Indeed it is a loss to the department. People like Gopal Hasur have brought a great name to the department of law and order.

Gopal - I salute you for your excellent service to the people of Mangalore and wish you a peaceful and happy retirement . May The Good Lord bless you abundantly. You may retire but your name has already gone down in history.

    Joe Gonsalves.
