Mangalore: Cattle theft - Locals gherao Suratkal police station

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore

Mangalore, Sep 23: Residents of Idya on Sunday September 22 gheraoed Suratkal police station and took the inspector to task after a cow was stolen from a house in Idya on Saturday September 21 night.

On Saturday night at around 3 am, a cow belonging to Vasathi Giriyappa from Idya was stolen. At around 4 am, the theft came to light and soon the police was informed.

Condemning the theft at Idya, the locals protested demanding arrest of the thieves soon. "Once again police have failed to protect the citizens from cattle thieves. They have been unsuccessful in curbing the rising number of cattle thefts in undivided Dakshina Kannada districts," they lamented.

Locals questioned the police officials and alleged that they were least bothered to arrest the cattle thieves despite having information about them.

Speaking on behalf of the locals, Hindu organization leader Satyajith Suratkal said, "When people co-operate or join hands to catch the cattle thieves, unnecessary cases are booked against them for doing so."

"Even though police promised to catch the thieves brandished weapons and stole cattle belonging to Mahadevi, they are still not arrested even after two months," he said.

MCC member Ashok Shetty was present.

Hasn't government lifted the ban on cow slaughter? People are free to consume the meat/ food that they deem fit. But stealing cattle that are livelihood of other people is a crime and should be punished.

People irrespective of the faith should come forward with the information they have on culprits. If that happens, then there will be no opportunity for the vigilante groups to take law into their own hands!

The Root Cause of Cattle theft is the RSS And B.J.P.
If they would have not Banned the cow slaughtering.this Problem would not have been so.
Beef is a very good Food.No doctor or Scientist's Would say it's not good for humans.
If Any Group Wants to ban anything.then ban The Alcohol or Tobacco's.Which is really killing the Society. Not The BEEF(Flesh of aCattle).

Giving protection to common citizen is priority of police force.

Our belongings including pets nad animals we should have proper sheds with steel- grill doors with good lock.
Police can not give door, lock , latch and locks for all.
We have to try from our side best.

In my several trips to Bangladesh what I realised there is one do not get milk there. They use imported milk powder. The country is green and have enough fodder. On inquiring it in detail it was known that due to cattle lifters soon after independence the farmers gave up on cattle rearing. Now they not only import milk they are also importing cattles from India even for the meat. Very soon we are also going to face the same plight of Bangladesh and may be worse, these politicians in the guise of secularism is not able to differentiate good from evil. God bless India. At this rate we will soon become Afghanistan.

I would blame first the police personnel whoever directly/indirectly supporting it n getting benefit out of it.

If the police department really serious about it,its not a big deal to curb permanently.

Law is weak n will power is more weak.

Is it possible, that this particular cow made to look "Stolen" because "Eid" is approaching?
    Another angle to your point...

People should take care to secure their valuable animals properly by keeping them in sheds with lock. This will make difficult for the thieves to rob.
One cannot keep blaming the police for once negligence.
