Mangalore, Oct 18: Sandalwood star Ambareesh, now the minister for housing in the Siddaramaiah cabinet, visited the city on Thursday October 17, for first time since he took charge as minister.

Addressing press meet after a review meet with the district officials at the DC's office, Ambareesh said that his ministry will soon introduce a housing scheme specially for economically backward families.

He said that the scheme will be undertaken on public-private partnership (PPP) and already discussions have been held at the cabinet level on its implementation. The scheme will be introduced in about two months, he said.

He further said that the government plans to build around 8 lac houses in the next two years for the poor at an estimated cost of Rs 5,000 crore.

Ambareesh also informed that BPL families who want to construct houses of areas more than 700 sq ft will be given funds, unlike earlier. Also, the subsidy has been increased from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.2 lac, he added.

He also assured that government was looking at ways to solve the issue of non-repayment of housing loans, especially by those who have been affected by natural calamities and are unable to build their house during rainy season.

Among those present were DC N Prakash, MCC commissioner Ajith Hegde, MLAs Mohiuddin Bava, Vasanth Bangera and others.

Ambarish along with the officials also inspected Shaktinagar and Kudupu areas.

Instead of Housing for Poor, Ambi should have d it as Housing for Poor Minority only. Then his party could have reaped rich dividend in Parliament election of 2014.

Umesh, kenya yes agree and would like to say that I am hardcore congress supporter. Last time for a change i voted for BJP in 2008 assembly elections. Due to internal fights within BJP i was fed up and again voted for congress in the recent assembly elections, but whatever anyone say the 5 years of BJP rule saw some good development works within Mangalore city which has to be really appreciated. Especially the first 3 years of BJP rule when Yeddy was the CM. We people always blame the political party which we hate and at the same we have to also appreciate when someone does good job also. See its nearly 7 months since the MCC elections got over and still we dont have a Mayor also. Due to that all the development works within Mangalore has been stopped. The congress has been just making only promises nothing is happening they are just spending their time in blaming the previous BJP govt. Also all the recent elected representatives are still busy attending sanmana programme and also with victory celebrations.
