Beltangady, Oct 20: Four persons including a child were killed and six others sustained injuries in a collision between a mini passenger tempo and an Ape auto rickshaw near Laila bridge here on Sunday October 20.

Hassainar and Nasir

The deceased have been identified as Hassainar (40), Mohammed Irfan (2), Zainabi (30) and Nasir (13). While Hassainar and Irfan were killed on the spot, Zainabi and Nasir passed away later. All of them were in the auto rickshaw.

The injured are auto rickshaw passengers Nafisa (55), Zohra (40), Mariamma (35), Dilshad (12) and rickshaw driver Shareef (24). All of them are residents of Mundur and are said to have sustained grave injuries. Tempo driver Chetan escaped minor injuries.

They were on their way back after attending a function in their relative's house at Kajoor when the accident took place.

The passengers in the mini tempo, all residents of Chikmagalur, were on their way to Dharmasthala after visiting Udupi, Kollur, Kateel and other places. When the tempo reached near Laila bridge, the Ape auto rickshaw, while trying to overtake a lorry, rammed into the tempo, killing two persons in the auto on the spot.

The passengers in the tempo, who escaped unhurt, said that the presence of mind shown by the tempo driver had saved their lives.

Both the vehicles were badly damaged in the incident. Traffic was affected for about one-and-a-half hours. Beltangady police arrived at the spot and cleared the gridlock.

The injured were rushed to hospital with the help of locals and other commuters. They were later taken to hospitals in Mangalore.

Rickshaw driver's license to be confiscated. Otherwise, he will repeat such mistakes and kill more and more innocent passengers.
First of all, he is overloading with 10 passengers. Then he is overtaking that too a big truck. He is not seeing for any possible vehicle in the opposite direction, while overtaking.
At least Tempo driver had presence of mind. he saved others in Rickshaw and fellow passengers in tempo.

    Respected RTO Puttur/Udupi and Mangalore
Kindly check following for the safety of passengers

    Driving Licence

    Break Light/parking lights

    Indicator

    Insurance/Roadworthy certificate

Bus driver/Conductors follows minimum road safety measures?

Auto/Tempo and other four wheeler passenger vehicles adheres minimum safety measures?

Whether Drivers follows road safety cultures and need to check DUI randomly( I did notice Buses/Autos/and other public passenger vehicles having no break light or indicator light or such vital technical faults).

Frequency of vehicles in almost all roads of DK/UDUPI doubled but road was not prepared for the changed scenarios.

I visited this accident spot and less than 1 KM away from Downtown Belthangady. It is National High way(Bantwal- Kadur)but widening not done and vehicle movement particularly in these holidays are very high and in fact, bumper to bumper(Most of the vehicles are plying to Dharmastala)Guruvayanakere-Belthangay-UJIRE roads are considered as accident prone as frequencies of vehicles are manifold. It was proposed to make by-lane road in between three cities earlier but officials may waiting for more accident related causalities.

As this APE was having ten passengers load factor might also contributed for the acciedent

    MAY SOULS REST IN PEACE...

    Exactly....

But in the expense of human lives.RTO need to look in to the matter very seriously because with single road of 25-30 years old remained by large same but volume of vehicle movement has manifold over the years.Road Transport sector should disciplined and effectively monitored for the safety of mankind in Karnataka/India.

Auto rickshaw suppose to take only 3 passengers. In this case there were 8 passengers. Who is responsible for this? The driver or the passengers insisted on it? In India kuchbi ho sakta hai!
