Honnavar fishermen attack Malpe boats, loot catch worth Rs 20 lac

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi

Udupi, Oct 21: As many as 15 deep sea fishing boats of Malpe port were reportedly stopped and attacked by fishermen in purse seine boats while they were fishing in sea off Honnavar coast. The Honnnavar group attacked the fishermen from Malpe, damaged their boats and also looted their catch worth Rs 20 lac on Sunday October 20, reports claimed.

The Malpe fishermen who were victims of the attack informed the Malpe deep sea fishermen's association about the incident.

It is said that the Honnavar fishermen came in around 30 purse seine boats and surrounded the 15 boats belonging to Malpe fishermen. They also took away catch worth Rs 20 lac and caused a damage of Rs 30 lac to their boats.

As per the information obtained, the purse seine boats also planned to take away a deep sea fishing boat named ‘Varasiddi’. As soon as they took the boat, the other fishermen informed their local counterparts about this. Soon, hundreds of boats started arriving. Sensing danger, the attackers left the boat and fled from the place.

A case has been registered in the Malpe police station.

This is not the first time Honnavar fishermen launched an unprovoked attack on Malpe boats. "If this continues, then there will be fight between two groups. In this regard, the officials concerned should soon take strict action and grant security to our fishermen," said members of Malpe deep sea fishing boat owners' association.

The incident was strongly condemned by Malpe trawl boat fishermen's association, Malpe deep sea fishermen's association and Malpe fish vendors' association.

In udupi these fisherwoman loot the public, with prices determined at the way the client looks, there is no fixed price, they quote Rs.1000 and end up with Rs.200, the one who don't know to bargain loses, this is shamefully, they should have a heart to have some fixed prices, if they are looted it their own medicine, I don't think much pity is going to come for them

All waters in Honnavar coastal belt region is for honnavar fishermen to fish only. Malpe fishermen need not come to honnavara to fish! Fish in malpe region only. It is your problem if you have over-exploited your fishing areas. Do not fish in our area. We also eat fish and export to Goa and mumbai!

Why this is happening, a post Mortem will throw out the facts. Fish catch is declining in our coastal areas and fishermen from other nearby areas stray into others Territory. Exports to gulf also has resulted in competition. My belief is due to heavy industrialization in our coastal areas with chemical waste effluents let out into sea might be the main cause of dwindling FISH CATCH. The sea which was clean in 19th century has changed its color in beaches around our coast.

In BJP Govt, it was only attacks in the land, that too against anti-social elements. But Under Congi rule not only, raping, looting & attacking innocents in the land, But also in waters now. Only Air combat is left now. This is the definition of Able administration according to some corrupt party supporters here. Jai Ho

This is happening every now and then. Now we can even say water is the limit. Because, area wise few fishermen even think that they should be allowed to fishing in their regional water territory but not others. Perhaps others thinks Sea is belongs everyone. Let us wait for Malpe fishermen’s attitude when Honnavar fishermen comes to Malpe side. I hope that Shri Pramod Madhwaraj will sort out the matter since he has good connection with all boat Owners from Malpe to Honnavar

We fight so much among ourselves, there is no wonder that a boat from Pakistan entered indian waters easlily and attacked Mumbai.
If required our people will fill fuel and give them also to reach to the required destination.
