Jharkhand policeman killed in gun battle with Maoists


Ranchi, Nov 2 (IANS): One policeman was killed and another injured in a gun battle with Maoist guerrillas in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district Saturday, police said.

According to police, the shootout took place near Jiyan village in Ghatsila sub-division of East Singhbhum district, around 130 km from Ranchi.

The dead policeman belonged to the Jharkhand Armed Police.

Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state.
