New Delhi, Nov 13: A Delhi High Court today stayed the release of the movie Ram-Leela, which was scheduled to release on Nov 15, 2013 following the petition that was filed stating that the movie had hurt religious sentiments.
Based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet the movie had Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. Both of whom defended the movie saying that it had nothing to do with Indian history and that as professionals they would never have resorted to such underhanded tactics to gain publicity.
Ranveer went on to say that the negative sentiments surfaced after the first released trailer of the film, garnered a record number of hits on YouTube.
The film has been granted its censor certificate and there were no issues with respect to the film or subject. The two leads of the movie clearly stated that they shared complete confidence on the subject of the film and that their work merely embodied a love story. They questioned the intelligence behind opting for a controversial name in order to capture public attention.
The name of the movie has since been changed from Ram-Leela to Goliyon ki Rasleela - Ram Leela.
