The credit card belongs to Valerian Lobo of Moodubelle.

Valerian had opened a savings account in Axis Bank and was issued a credit card. On October 6 and 7, an unknown person in Saudi Arabia is said to have swiped a cloned copy of his credit card to buy items worth Rs 77,456.58.

Though the purchase was done in October, it came to Valerian's notice only last week. He then enquired with the bank and was told that the card was swiped in Saudi Arabia.

Valerian has filed a case in Udupi police station in this regard.

Going with my past experience, I can only say that these Private Multinational Banks will be after you till you open a Bank account and obtain all credit/debit cards. After this, they are not bothered at all and you have to run behind them and it is like chasing a deaf and dumb person. Tele-calls are not answered (manned by outsourced persons), emails are not replied and a whole lot of lethargy is found. The only answer you get is "we are looking into the matter". Therefore, it is advisable only to open an account but not to accept any add ons like debit and credit card while will only add to your miseries.

Ever since the jobs are outsourced by Credit card companies, credit card frauds have increased many folds!
RBI has necessitated the entry of OTP (one time Password)sent through registered Mobile of card holder for completing the transaction.
OTP for online shopping and, thumb impression recordings for offline shopping should be made mandatory to eliminate credit card misuse & frauds!

How can bank allow to debit the charges so easily ? For each & every transaction, they send sms mail. But if the bank is so shrewd it would have asked the credit card owner & guy is here in Udupi, how it can allow debit in Saudi. Report the matter immediately to Saudi officials. You will see either his hand will be cut or beheaded by next week. Cheating in Saudi invites death.

Nowadays you have new type of cards that requires password for every transactions.
I am not familiar with the way credit cards work in India. But for cards issued by Saudi Banks you immediately get an intimation vis SMS regardless of you use the card inside the kingdom or elsewhere.

Last month one of my friend used his credit card issued by axis bank mangalore, was not able to access his account and repeated e mails and calls to Axis bank who return said that these credit card transaction process was given to their outsourced dept and not handled by axis bank directly. In this case there is likely a chance of fraud which now happened in Saudi Arabia. Request AXIS BANK to take up this issue seriously.

If Axis Bank has given a reply of that nature, then it is better for people not to open account with this bank as for any forged transaction happened, they may wash their hands off citing "OUTSOURCED - NOT RESPONSIBLE"!!

The customer has connection with the Bank concerned and not with any party bank may hire for doing their work. Did Axis Bank inform the customer when issuing the card that they are not responsible for any fraud that may take place as they are "Outsourcing" the function of ATMs?
