Mangalore, Nov 16: With the intention to promote the distribution of organic products among consumers in Mangalore, the Organic Promoters Collective (OPC) in collaboration with various other associations initiated a month-long campaign through a mobile outlet which will move around in the city selling organic products.

The mobile outlet was launched by MLA J R Lobo at Kankanady grounds, near market on Saturday November 16.

MLA J R Lobo launching the campaign said, "It is a good experiment by the association to introduce organic products to the people of the city and I am sure it will get a positive response."

Stating that these organic products were certified, he wished the mobile outlet to have more variety of organic vegetables, so that more people buy them and asked people to support these kinds of initiatives.

Sunny D’Souza, farmer researcher, member of Karnataka Raitha Sangha Hasiru sene, Dr Rita Noronha of Roshni Nilaya, students of Roshni Nilaya College among other were present.

Protest

As the mobile outlet was placed at Kankanady grounds, the nearby market vendors protested and asked them to vacate the place. This made way for arguments between them and finally the situation was brought under control.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Sunny D’Souza of Karnataka Raitha Sangha said, "We have obtained permission from MCC but still we were not allowed to sell the products. How can they do this to us when we are initiating this campaign to promote organic products?" he said.

"I have already informed Karnataka Raitha Sangha leaders and we will make this a state level issue," he added.

Good effort. To gain confidence and have transparent system, list the farms from where products are sourced. Always sell in packs condition (1/4, 1/2, 1 kg Prepacked). This can avoid substitution. Be fair to customers in telling if you run out of stock. Education about cultivation practice is also important.

Please do not give up. See that more and more of these vegetables etc. are made available to public so they can eat tasty, healthy Vegetables like we once used to eat.
Present day vegetables or even any type of meat does not have the taste of olden days, for that matter no taste at all, as they are grown and reared differently. We are forced to eat for the sake that we have to eat.
People support will surely help to change the trend.
