Dubai, Nov 21 (Emirates 24|7): Parts of the UAE awoke this morning to lightning streaking across the sky, with a steady drizzle reported in certain areas, while heavy wind kicked up dust and sand.

Rain in Muscat

Dubai

Key agencies – RTA, Dubai and Abu Dhabi Police –immediately put out alerts for motorists to drive slowly in view of reduced visibility, with patches of fog reported in the western region.

At least two major accidents were reported by 7am on Sheikh Zayed Road, bring Dubai’s main artery to a standstill.

The first was an accident near Oasis Centre heading towards Jebel Ali.

A Toyota reportedly crashed into the central barrier and police were already on the scene.

However, traffic was already heavily backed-up heading towards Abu Dhabi.

Following that was reportedly another four-car pile-up, near Interchange 2, with an eye witness telling Emirates 24|7: “It appears to be a four-car accident, nothing serious. However, traffic is at a complete standstill near Safa Park.”

Abu Dhabi police issued a warning on its Twitter account at 8am that stated: “Heavy rains in Abu Dhabi City and State roads. And almost non-existent vision. We ask drivers to take caution."

Meanwhile, reports are also coming in of heavy congestion on Sharjah’s Ring Road. However, Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail are open to traffic.

    Rudolf Rodgrigues,

It is true that weather patterns are changing in recent times.

In the same way, if oil patterns (reserves) also change the course and partly flaws towards our Country ? Wow...

Very soothing change in the deserts!! The Arabs may not have even thought in their dreams that one day it would start raining in the deserts!!! Imagine heavy torrential rains sometimes in the future (which can be a possibility considering how the weather patterns are rapidly changing) and the situation they will be in!! NATURE IS SUPREME!!!!

Cornord Please don't do fun which will make bad effect. Back home, may be some people's parents/family might have called to ask about their well being. The reason, mostly they are depending on us and always worried about us.

Gulf countries the moderate rain is an excitement a thrill but heavy rains is bit a confused state and bit out of control !!!. Gulf countries look good when it is dry and it is out of gear when it is wet !!!

Just one stormy rain... Dubai has become like that. what would have been happened if they have a rain like in India. Now you can think in this way " we here in India get lot of rain, still we don't see this kind of water jam a lot" Now you realize who has the best drainage system!?, Off-course India. So don't blame on the corporation or the engineers who worked on planning the drainage if there is a water jam near to your house because of heavy rain. See in Dubai if there is a water Jam you people blame rain not the UAE government or engineers. If it happens in India then will be corporation fault or Engineers fault. Why like this ...??

Come on...in Gulf country will get only 2-3 days rain in yearly ,not like India its 3 months .Indian fisherman always expects that yearly three months off is there, in GCC full year fishing. in some part of Japan they prepare hut type of home because of frequent earthquake & same case not In another part.. Everybody is preparing according to geographical changes & needs

It doesn't matter that how many times you get a rain in a year. It matters only about the problem happened.

Dear Benjamin, No need to blame someone but do you have any idea about responding to emergency situations like this? how Dubai civil defense and Municipality work to clear water logged areas? Moreover Dubai is getting rain once in a blue moon but comparatively we are getting almost 4 months of rain and we don't have a proper drainage system. We often see the rain water flow on newly constructed concrete roads, what you think who required efficient drainage system.

Conrad....surprised seeing your comments. I think you are new in Dubai. Please note that 1st 6 photo's are Rain in Muscat.
Benjamin..... Please note that all the cities are coming up as per weather of the place. i.e. in Himalaya you can't construct 160 story building.... In Desert, where the rain comes occasionally than they have build the city or drainage accordingly... please note that there is no water logging in Dubai
