Mangalore, Nov 23: The police on Thursday November 21 night arrested former Ira gram panchayat president and Congress activist Abdul Razaq Kukkaje in connection to the kidnapping of Bajpe-Yedapadav stone quarry manager. Abdul Razaq was said to be absconding.

On August 24, Abdul Razaq, quarry manager Hassainar along with others had allegedly kidnapped quarry manager Anwar Sadat from Kerala and attacked him. A case was registered with Bajpe police.

Hassainar and other accused were earlier arrested by the police, but Abdul Razaq was absconding in Kerala. The police had kept an eye on him.

Police received information that he had taken refuge in Uppala, and with the help of mobile phone trackers, his movement was watched.
On Thursday, police confirmed that he was in Bantwal area limits, and at around midnight, he was arrested from his house in Kukkajebail.

He was then taken to Bajpe police station. After interrogation, he was produced in the court on Friday November 22 and sent to judicial custody.

Kidnap motive

Anwar Sadat was newly appointed as the manager of the stone quarry in place of Hassainar, which is said to have made Hassainar unhappy.

Thus, he along with Abdul Razaq and several others kidnapped Anwar, attacked and even threatened him, it is alleged.

Police said that the attackers' main intention was to make Anwar quit his job.
