Air India aim for double badminton crown


Chandigarh, Nov 30 (IANS): Air India will aim to clinch the double crown at the 38th Inter-State-Inter-Zonal Badminton Championships after both their girls and boys teams reached the finals here.

Top seeded Air India boys made short work of Maharashtra while the girls stopped Karnataka with an identical 2-0 scoreline.

Awaiting the Air India boys are Kerala, who defeated Chandigarh 2-0 in the other semifinal.

In the girl's final, Air India will face top seeds Andhra Pradesh.

Semifinal results:

Narang Cup (Boys): Air India beat Maharashtra 2-0 (Aditya Joshi beat Chirag Shetty 21-12, 21-16; Shlok Ramchandran/Sanyam Shukla beat Kabir Kanzarkar/Vighnesh Devlekar 21-17, 21-14); Kerala beat Chandigarh 2-0 (Arun George beat Rupinder Singh 21-15, 18-21, 21-19; Arun George/Shyam Prasad beat Kawaldeep Singh/Rupinder Singh 21-17, 21-16).

Shafi Qureshi Cup (Girls): Andhra Pradesh beat Chandigarh 2-0 (G. Ruthvika Shivani beat Muskan Sohi 21-11, 21-10; Rituparna Das/Meghana J. beat Muskan Sohi/Kailash 21-10, 21-15); Air India beat Karnataka 2-0 (Reshma Karthik beat Shikha Gautam 18-21, 21-17, 21-14; Reshma Karthik/Harika V. beat Shikha Gautam/Mahima Aggarwal 21-16, 21-19).
