M'lore: Sahyadri College of Nursing hosts national conference

Mangalore, Dec 6: Sahyadri College of Nursing, is one among the prestigious colleges in Mangalore, Karnataka, celebrated  the inaugural function of  'National  Conference  Transcendence-managing to make a difference' at Sahyadri campus, Mangalore on December 6.

Dr Assumma Beevi T M, principal,  MIMS College of Nursing, Calicut was the chief guest.  Professor Irene Veigas , principal, Sahyadri College of Nursing, Dr Raja A, conference co-ordinator  and Sreelal S S, student organizer presided over the function.

After the blessings of Almighty, the function was inaugurated by Dr Assuma Beevi. Conference coordinator Dr Raja A, welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering.

Dr Assuma Beevi delivered the inaugural address and appreciated the purpose of conducting this conference help to spread the knowledge of  Nursing administration and management to  every one. She said that good leadership and management skills are required to attain transcendence. She expressed pride for the people in the nursing field conducting such programs.

The two days national conference is based on the theme 'Transcendence -2013:  Managing to make a difference'.  Dr Assumma Beevi, Principal, MIMS College of Nursing, professor Irene Veigas, principal Sahyadri college of Nursing, professor Jaya Kuruvilla, Principal Hinduja College of Nursing, Mumbai, Dr Sunitha Saldhana, Office incharge operation, Yenopoya Medical College,

Mr.D.Samuel Abraham, legal advisor, Christian Medical College,Vellore, Kiran Kulkarni, Nurse educator, Apollo BGS hospital, Mysore , Dr Jyothi Clara Micheal, nursing director, Global Health City, Chennai were the resource persons. After the inaugural function  the conference began in full swing.

The first session was dealt by Dr Assumma Beevi T M who discussed  on the topic 'Evidence Supporting Excellence'. She stressed upon the problems and reasons of why nurses have no influence in the administrative section with none or limited autonomy to frame and implement nursing activities.
 
Professor Irene Veigas began the second session on the theme 'Renewal and Re birth of nursing leadership'. The centre of interest was on advocacy, autonomy and leadership of nurses in achieving their professional competencies globally. She encouraged the delegates by  saying  that advocacy is essential for good competencies at the training level and also support is needed from the  co-professionals and commitment from the government to improve the nursing scene in India.

Professor Jaya Kuruvilla, principal, Hinduja College of Nursing, Mumbai, addressed  the topic “Stand with nursing standards”.  She made aware of the clinical audit which is a quality improvement process that seeks to improve patient care.

Dr.Sunita Saldhana ,Officer incharge, Operation,Yenopoya Medical College with the topic “Fail To Plan Is Plan To Fail”   stressed about When the budget is properly administrated, it becomes a tool for control and accountability.

The conference will continue on with difference sessions.
