Karkala: Now, two women detained for alleged conversion

R B Jagadish
Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (EP)

Karkala, Dec 11: Less than a week after 13 persons from Gujarat were detained for allegedly indulging in religious conversion at Nallur-Peralke, the police on Tuesday December 10 took two women into custody for allegedly propagating Christianity among non-Christians. The women were later released.

Rajani and Chitra had reportedly gone to houses in Kalambadi in Nitte to distribute books and pamphlets concerning Christianity.  They had been to the house of Amaravani, a local and allegedly persuaded her to convert to Christianity by giving a lecture on the religion, it is said.

The news spread like wildfire and Bajrang Dal activists gathered to protest.  The police, who rushed to the spot, took the two women into custody for questioning. They were made to sign a statement that they did not convert anybody to Christianity but had only come to propagate their faith.  The women were then released.

Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Bajrang Dal jointly condemned the inaction of the police. They claimed that a network of people was active in the taluk inducing and persuading people to convert to Islam and Christianity. Bajrang Dal taluk convener Mahesh Bailur said that they will protest against the indifference of the police department in this regard.

On December 7, the police, based on Bajrang Dal's complaint, had detained and later released a group of 13 persons from Gujarat for allegedly trying to 'convert' people to Islam. However, local Muslim leaders had said that the group came to propagate their faith among their own community and did not attempt to convert anyone.

God is a living God and not mask
No one can buy God for price. God is creator of universe. He no need money but his law is one part of 10 we has to give in bible. That to use for his kingdom. It is in gospel.
(Word said ,Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's.)

Healings, miracles, good health, happy marriage, wealth must preach according to the word of God, but cannot sold for a price in the name of God !
If preachers use God or gospel and God to gain prosperity than God will judge them.

They can fool people but not God, No one hide from God, He is spirit,
God choosed them in that place, he can lift them up. same God can dumph them too.

As long We are living in the world, We cannot live only in spiritual food, need physical too, so
    Universal education is needed.
But to enter the kingdom of god gospel education is utmost important.

Whatever knowledge stored in brain it the the out put when we give the opinion. The person's profession, employment decides how he is leading life in the society. Everybody has his own individuality, one can not become slaves of any books since he has read many times. First we have to search our conscious how good or bad we are to others. By taking the name of God please do not get shelter under the carpet.

Whenever I hear about such incidents, following things run in my mind:
    1) If a person from my religion is converting to another religion for the sake of money or any other benefits, I would be happy that he has gone. What is the use of him being with us when he does not have faith on the religion which was taught to him by his parents for so many years?
    2) If a person converts from another religion to mine, for the sake of money or any other benefit, why should I be happy? He will leave as soon as the money gets over. I would rather give the money to someone poor who follows my religion sincerely.
    3) I feel taking about our religions to strangers is kind of manner less. We should talk about religion only at religious functions or to those who are comfortable talking about it

Religion is just a state of mind.
Drilled in from birth & filled in during life.
Something like ghost pain where a patient shouts in pain that his leg which has been amputated years back is paining.

When we learn anything we going continue what we learn may job….may we teach others. who is teaching students are learning and following even preacher too.
    word said James 3:1,
Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
I don’t know what you follow. I was Christian but without Christ just in tradition, when someone sharing with me gospel I was fully against them chasing them with gossip until the rod of God hit me, God hit me hard like I struggle lot in every way.
From that forcibly I has to try in my own will. so I accept gospel and understand what is truth, it took long time to understand for me and I am glad I was accepted.
Now I am not a preacher but I am becoming a testimony. I feel how I experience God and love of God I want to share who was broken hearted. Or in bandages. how God brought me out, from the bondage, how I was before with anger, hatred, bitterness, and how God change my life, how peace full with the help of God. same God can help and change the situation .
Who want to eat can eat freely. God is using people but judging too.some ministries is helping needy and som going for worldly pleasures.I who going without according the will of God for them there is the judgment of God,
I will not tell to follow everyone because I choose myself and saw the goodness of the Lord, whatever love joy peace I don’t had myself I found in him and I share to others.
You said wealth for the poor. According my capability I help sometime needy, because I am not a wealthy person and I don’t show that I help.
And about preachers what they do al they have to account for God not Us, God choose them in that place. Word said don’t touch anointed, yes some time I don’t like the way, even I speak, that is against the will of God.may God forgive me.
Christianity teaches about love,1 Cori 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy,Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth

Many time many sales mans come home giving some kits, sometime we take and sometime we ignore they do their duty and it is our will accept, take use or not, all have freedom,
if anyone distributes books If like take, or don’t, is anyone force us that have to take, read and follow? No one put us in jail or we are tied with chains by them and force us take read, or follow.
Who is real Christian he experiences love from Christ, that person is a testimony, because he like to share how was he before Christ ,and after following Christ. he have joy of Lord, he think what I have others must have so, he try to share. In that he don’t get money, salary, he love to see that with others what he experienced in his own. so who want to take, who don’t want leave. Tell them don’t come we don’t need. Here topic finish.

Let peace remain, don’t try to make problems.
All like when Christians helping in all things, in this way also they try help with sharing the Gospel and showing what they learn how to become blessed.
All live in freedom with our own choice So please try to keep peace.
Let Gods peace be with you.God bless you.

My classmate married hindu dalit boy.she converted hindu, I don’t know that anyone came against her,she is living wonderful life it long time back
There is no way to convert anyone without the once willingness to convert.
True conversion is in the heart. Any one can give word, books,…cannot transform life until God touches our heart. no way to convert forcing anyone without the once willingness

Today's modern world we all have freedom to live, we can eat what we want, change lifestyle, as our wish, why only no freedom for
In India all things we have freedom but only in religion not FREEDOM for choosing your own Religion ?
    Specially Christian

The art of Living program does spread the geetha and teachings of Lord Krishna in USA and other countries. It has many followers including Christians. Those people are well matured to take good things from Geethopadesh and good things from Krishnas Life and teachings. As long as people are more open minded , they would benefit. In our country , we like to brag things for bad purposes. That is sad part of us. Hope the things get better soon.

Distributing books of Christianity is good to read people which will allow you to learn a peaceful life of Jesus addition to your religion free of cost. I strongly recommend to BD members to read these books which will teach you a basic principle of life how to live and love your neighbours as you love yourselves. There is no hatred, bombing, terrorism act in these books it is purely the life of Jesus how he died on the cross for all of us and our sins and still live within us etc written on these books which will give you peace. So why fight. Christianity will never harm you anywhere for any one because Jesus never harmed anyone even he surrendered himself and people crucified him on cross. That is the life of Jesus and that is what its written in those books if they are distributed by lovers of Jesus. Jesus is not a religion just follow him and you see the changes as you grow with him. You people are missing only one thing in your life that is Jesus. For this Christmas please remember Jesus who is the Savior of this world, the prince of peace and the king of heaven and earth. God bless you all peace lovers and pray for bd memebers to have peace in them.

It should be noted that sharing the Gospel (Good News) about Jesus Christ is one of the prime duty of a Christian. No one needs to convert, but to follow the teachings of Christ, if one is willing. The Word of God from Revelation itself says that the word of the Living God - Jesus Christ will be preached to one and all on this earth. It is then to them to accept it or not till the second coming of Jesus Christ.

    Dear Daiji readers:

Christians are the law abiding people, and never go against the Law of the Land. No one can take the law in their hands. The Indian Constitution applies to all Indians and we must abide by it. The preaching of the Gospel or any other religions are our freedom of rights. My grandfather was a hindu and became a good Christian and became a headmaster of Mission schools in Mulki and elsewhere. Bajrang or RSS or Hindu Yuva sene etc., have no rights to stop anyone preaching their religion. The police should take stringent action on these miscreants. They have done enough during BJP Government and now it is time for them to shut their mouth and work for peace. If we all follow the laws of the country, there will be peace in Karnataka and India. I love my country and I am a Kannadiga and I will look forward for the development of the Nation of India.
Let us live in peace in our country and love one another as good Indian Citizens. May God bless you all.

I have been interested in different cultures, countries and religions my whole life. Often in my life I had interesting discussions, talks with Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Muslims. We talked about our life, beliefs, shared, but we never tried to convert each other. I am very grateful that I had and have the opportunity to know and to meet people with different cultural backgrounds and beliefs. What I always realised in all discussions or spending time with friends from different cultural backgrounds is, that we have a meaning of life, which is so important and I was surprised to feel that all of them believe in God, in different ways, thy expressed it differently. That strengthened me and I would like to come to the most important point. People who belong to different denominations shall discuss and talk, dialogue is so fruitful.

Respect, tolerance, mutual understanding, dignity is decisive. I am not a theologian, I am a simple believer. I think religious conversion is the wrong way. Every religion gives a meaning of life. But we need mutual understanding, tolerance, trust, love, respect and dignity. Hatred and fanaticism is the wrong way.
I am very glad to have friends with different cultural backgrounds and different religions. All that does make my life very rich.

    Best regards

Preaching and explaining about his/her faith is part of a Christian’s duty. There is no organization or NGO which pays for him/her who preaches and propagates his/her religion since it is one of the commandments of the Lord. At the same time Lord Jesus has also taught his followers against the use of force or providing material benefits to the convert, to the extent that if a town or a village rejects the Gospel, then we are to shake off the dust from their feet while leaving that place.

True conversion is a matter of one’s conscience, in which no force or compulsion is involved. A true convert is the one who studies, understands and accepts the faith on his/her own free will and not through coercion. In this case if anybody has been converted through compulsion or even by promising / providing financial or economic favours, then only the police may take action against those ladies.

A.P., Mlore, It is not practical to wait till the age of 18 or 21 to decide to choose a religion. Certain things are decided by the parents for the children like their names, putting them to school etc. It is because of the teachings from the parents that children have carried on their faith in a particular religion. The need of the hour is to have a sincere dialogue with each other and enhance your spiritual experience. We should live like seven colours of the rainbow. It is possible if we do not force our religious views on others.

This is the main reason that resulted in 'Church attack' in the year 2008.If such pamplets/leaflets contain derogatory words against other faith/god,situation may lead to destroying peace.

    Mr. Prabhu,
I believe Joseph is speaking about 'distribution of leaflets/ pamphlets' to propagate one's faith.
Not to pass derogatory words against other faith/God, which is wrong.
Scriptures forbid speaking ill about others and judging others,
so normal person wouldn't speak ill about others.
But God, creator of this universe, who loves and cares for us, keeps sending good prophets to cleanse the demoralizing humanity whoever persecutes them are going against the will of God.

First of all, police should find out Rajani and Chitra are Christians or not. If they are Christians, are they by birth or if not, When they have followed Christianity.

Now the election is approaching very fast, May 2014. Many issues will creep up like conversion, beef, scams and will disappear after the election.

Those who want to get immersed in Yeshu bhakthi,I suggest them to go the pages of DW dated 22.12.2012 read and reread the poem titled "I love Jesus" by Sri.R.Bhandarkar,Mlore.It is nothing but a spiritual stream that gives tremendous devine feelings. One can not change his mother so the religion too under any circumstances.Attempt by ane one to change ones religion is just like attempting to change his mother who had given birth.Devotion/bhakthi has broken all the barrierss of religions if we peep in to history.

    Prabhuji,
If we all dig the history into deep, then we all land up at a Stone age era, where there was no religions and use to worship only daily Food to live !!

In today's modern era, if someone is talking about any religion either he/she must be Clergy or lazy person without any work to do !!
Looking at the amount we all spent in churches, temples, mosques where as in front of same worship places so many peoples are begging for daily living !!
People are taking care of Dogs, even they upset for not taking photos of their pet dogs, but no one there to take care of poor people and that too you and me to are not exceptions !!
we all are fit only for talking and preaching to others do that do this !!!

Freedom of Religion is an individual’s fundamental right and it includes Freedom to Change Ones Religion. An individual should be free to make his/her own judgment. The decision to believe in a religion, or to change one’s religion must be based upon an individual’s own well-thought out judgment. It is a matter of principle that in choosing one’s religion, every individual should be free of all external pressures and temptations.

You Can Not Take Away God-Given Freedom
The people with the above-mentioned self-contradictory policy of action even do not see that they are trying to defeat God’s purpose. Divine Wisdom demanded that human beings should be free to disbelieve.
God gives humans' ability to think and freedom to make their own choice and then holds them accountable for the path they follow. Divine Wisdom demanded that God would send prophets and messengers who would help the people in making a right judgment and who would deliver to them the Divine Guidance revealed to these teachers of humanity.
Therefore, no one has any right to use pressure of any kind to make a person change or stop from changing his/her religion. An individual out of his/her own free will should himself or herself do enter into a religion or coming out of a religion.

Change of Religious faith takes place only with people those who have little faith in the religion.

Forget about changing faith (conversion) from one religion to another, even people born Roman Catholic switch to another sect of Christianity but same Jesus. It’s all man made (different names & Gods). The creator is only one. Believe in the religion you are born and live peacefully.

More than fighting against someone else attempting to convert, one should educate our own religion's principles to our people.
This will make people stronger in faith and less willing to convert
Moreover we are grown up,and not kids who drink cerelac. So as individuals one is matured enough to judge on his own

On many occasions in this Daiji Forum itself I reiterated the issue of conversions but many people dislike that comments by clicking “Disagree” button and few of them replied in attacking mood too. But now I hope that they will understand why I am writing a few comments against conversions which are the root cause of all agitation by various Hindu Organizations. I am sure these people never work by their own to spread the message of any such religion, there must be some Organizations or NGOs’ paying for their services too. Everybody knows about Jesus, Allah or Iswar, etc, etc, but no need to indulge in such propaganda by visiting other religions houses. Thank God this time we have a Congress Government in Karnataka else same people those who call themselves intellectuals would have blamed BJP for this Police Action too. Need Peaceful life in India? If the present government is BJP then a huge number of people would have been using their vocabulary in a highest possible manner .May be some people trying to change their identity from Minority to Majority. One thing is sure that this is not possible without any external support.Last time when the 10 people from Gujarat arrested some one asking that Is that your religion is so weak that people lose faith on it.The fact is that the strength of the money and the greed of the people takes away the faith on religion. There is no guarantee that how long these people will stay if the financial aid stopped.

It is very unfortunate that some sects do whatever they like in the name of Christianity and the peace loving, never interfering Catholics suffer, as the majority of the Non Christians does not know the difference between Christians and Catholic Christians. Those who are interested in KNOWING the Christian faith, in the Catholic church have to follow a lengthy procedure and even after teaching them for a year, they are never forced to accept Catholicism. Canon Law of the Catholic Church No. 748 point 2 says NO ONE IS EVER PERMITTED TO COERCE PERSONS TO EMBRACE THE CATHOLIC FAITH AGAINST THEIR CONSCIENCE.
For the information of Non Christians there are some Christian sects who do not celebrate Christmas.

Very unfortunate that the women were detained as they had not committed any crime. No law in India bars people from propagating the faith. Even conversion for that matter is a free choice and no-one can be arrested for converting people if they desire so, as the case will not stand in the court. It is a shame that VHP and Bajrang Dal think they are a parallel court.

    All are propagating their faith!
There are trouble mongers in all religions, but we shouldn't generalize.
Speaking ill about any religion is absolutely wrong.
In such situations complaining and taking Police action is appropriate.
For trouble from some people, or may be instigators, really it is difficult to understand who they could be, fundamentalists went and barged into many Churches and hit black and blue anyone that came across. That what happened last time.

All are not comfortable to welcome them as there are mixed religion living in bldgs. and don't like to hear about another religion. the group should propagate within their circle and not in unfamiliar surroundings as this can be dangerous to them if anyone reacts aggressively injuring the group.

Nobody will become rich by converting themselves from one religion to another. It is the hard work which one puts on to move forward in life in an intelligent way.

In the following incident one can make out....

A dying man was in terrible pain. She told him "You are suffering like Christ on the cross. So Jesus must be kissing you." To which the man replied: "Then please tell Jesus to stop kissing me."

    Gol maal....

If I go to my community's home to refresh their knowledge about religion/remind them what out holy script says & convince them to follow it,then its ok & there will not be law & order problem.

But the question arises only after if I go to some other community's home & teach them my religious views, then definitely it will be created tensions between communities.

I feel better if someone wanted to convert him/herself then inform the authority about your will in writing & then proceed,so no headache to the society...

No religion asks to force others to be part of it...

Better to follow what you feel better, don't force anyone...

Basically no religion is bad at its core but some misunderstandings and wrong practices caused errors in every religion. Well when someone comes to your house and preaches you, you do not covert to that religion. I believe that following a particular religion should be based on staunch belief and conviction that I will meet God in the way that I would like to follow. I am a Roman Catholic and some of these people had come to my house too to preach anti. I told them that I am convinced and convicted to my religious belief of RC and I do not want any more teachings other than what our Lord has taught us and we follow the same under the leadership of our beloved Pope. I do not believe in forcing your ideology or tenets on others. Live a life pure and simple and let it be a teaching and beacon to others to follow you rather than this, which creates rifts in the society.
