Udupi, Dec 18:
The Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest meeting near Clock Tower here on Wednesday December 18 against the implementation of the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) Act, 2006 for professional courses from 2014-15.

Protest across state

The ABVP said that the implementation of the Act would cause a lot of hardship for students from financially weaker sections and deprive them of quality professional education. The contended that:

1. There would be no seats under the government quota in unaided colleges.

2. All the students would have to mandatorily answer Comed-K exam for admission in private colleges.

3. CET exams would apply only to government and aided colleges. Only 21 engineering and 10 medical colleges would be bound by CET.

4. A student who gets first rank in CET also would have to invariably spend several lacs of rupees in order to get admission in a prestigious college.

5. No unaided colleges would be bound by government orders for distribution of seats and fees structure.

6. Comed-K would be allowed to indulge in the business of blocking seats making the examination process questionable.

7. The previous 45% engineering, 40% medical and 35% medical seats available in the government quota would be transferred to private quota.

The ABVP has demanded that the government revoke this 'drastic' decision. The protestors said that with the new regulations, CET examinations would be held only for 5,000 seats, while Comed-K test would be conducted for the remaining 75,000 seats. The ABVP has termed it as 'giving key to the robbers'.

    Dear Students,
Protests alone won't help. File a public writ petition in the court. You will win.

The big politicians of all the Three political parties namely Cong, BJP & JDS own private professional colleges. Hence they are united in favouring Private colleges at the cost of poor meritorious students. Even the Politicians of Andhra, TN & Kerala too own private colleges in Karnataka. They are all in favour of new CET Rules favouring Capitation Mafia.

If students are Politicized or focused too much on religiosity than their academic studies
It will cause a lot of hardship to financially weaker/ healthier as well as academically weaker and well as bright students and deprive them of not only quality professional education but also decent future!

Wonder why the Congress goons who protest and shout slogans in the night near circuit house cannot come out and protest against this extremely unfair decision by the govt which is affecting the students of our state. This matter must be treated above party politics. May be all those youth congress protesters are getting some Bhagya not to protest against this decision.

In last decade or two one thing that stood out was that students from financially weaker section also were managed to become engineers and doctors. This had a huge social positive impact. I know quite a few otherwise desperate families started leading decent life thanks to the old quota system.
Unfortunately education has become a business and who cares about social issues?

It is an issue of 6.5 crore Kannadigas. Tomorrow your relative in karnataka may suffer from this rule of Govt. Please support the students. Don't see politics everywhere.

The question here is not eligibility, but the fee demanded by private colleges.

    Siddu,

Instead of providing 1 Rs Rice, Shaadi Bhagya, Pravasa Bhagya, Ksheera Bahgya, Madya bhagya, aa bhagya, ee bhagya, please give SHIKSHANA BHAGYA for poor students.

Your minister Moily himself opposed govt's move.

Already students are burdened with new syllabus and over and above that Govt is helping private colleges to make money which can be used for their 2014 elections, as not many states have congress as ruling party. This sudden decision by our CM who is a socialist shows that he is under pressure to provide funds for the elections fro high command.
