Mumbai, Dec 19: “Bendre is a poet who sowed pearls and made them grow. The life of the poet is filled with interesting moments similar to his poems. His life history is a synthesis of love, compassion, human values, difficulties, pain and joy and is an inspiration and motivation for others. His poems depict human pain and sufferings over joy and happiness”, opined Dr Basu Bevinagidada, head of Akashwani, Karvar.
He was speaking after participating at a special literary lecture programme held by Mumbai university Kannada department. He continued to say that “nature was an indivisible part of Bendre’s poems. It was an expression and lingo of his life. He had become a natural spring, a kite and a spinning top. He wrote what he experienced. He is the poet who built modern Kannada poetry bringing in Janapada into it. There is no death for memory in his poems. He brought out the perception of philosophy in his poems. His poems have the inner voice and the voice of the masses. One can feel the noise of waterfalls and peace in his poetry”.
Dr G N Upadhya who gave an introductory address, lauded the programme held by Basu and said that “Basu has secured a post graduate degree in English and after undergoing special studies on Bendre, is working as the head of Akashwani, Karwar”. He added that “English language lecturers have contributed a lot to the development of Kannada literature. Dr Basu Bevinagidada is one of them. He said that we are fortunate to have him as a lecturer in the programme”.
Akashvani Mumbai Kannada department’s Sushila Devadiga and comedian Shyamala Prakash presented Bendre’s poems. Rama Udupa held a discussion of poems collected by H B Poojara.
Dr Mamatha Rao, S K Sunder, Sarojini Tare, Padma Rekha, Sugandha Satyamoorthi, Shailaja Hegde, Mamatha Malhar, Durgappa Kotiavar, Surekha B, Shivaraj M G, Parasappa, etc took part in the discussion programme. Purnima Sudhakar Shetty compered the programme and thanked the gathering.
