Mangalore: Police arrest two women thieves, seize gold worth Rs 2.5 lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Jan 7: Pandeshwar police on Monday January 6 arrested two women thieves for looting gold ornaments from houses and from passengers in buses, and recovered gold worth Rs 2.5 lac from them.

The accused have been identified as Maheshwari (32) and Nagu (22) from Karur district, Tamil Nadu. Nagu is the mother of a small child.

The police said that the two women were spotted moving about in a suspicious manner at Old Kent road. The police took them into custody and during interrogation, it came to light that they were involved in two theft cases at Shivanagar and Derebail.

On November 6, the duo had broken into the house of Irene D'Souza of Shivanagar. Irene had left from her house after locking the front door. The accused women broke the lock of the back door and looted the house in broad daylight.

On November 27, the two women snatched a gold chain from Derebail's Pauline Maryappa, an officer in the crime branch in police commissioner's office. Pauline was on her way to the office by city bus, when the accused snatched her gold mangalsutra worth Rs 1.7 lac.

The accused had put the stolen gold in a plastic cover and hidden it among the bushes near a railway track. The police recovered the stolen items consisting of a gold mangalsutra, a chain, a necklace, two finger rings, a pair of earrings and a bracelet.

Nagu and Maheshwari were living in a tent near the railway station and would commit thefts usually in the early mornings. They would target houses that were locked, and sometimes don burka and loot passengers in buses, said the police.

The investigation was led by ASP Pawan Nejoor. Pandeshwar police inspector Dinakar Shetty, crime branch PSI S S Meti, Vishwanath, Keshava, Gangadhar, Damodar, Shaju K Nayar, Prakash, Jayaprakash, and Vijaygeeta were part of the arrest operation.

Investigation is on to determine whether the accused were involved in other theft cases.

Mangalore people be careful about your ornaments. Pick pocketing is there in all places but how they dare to snatch such big chains? In all parishes and in common places, buses, railways etc. should be notified of such happenings. One guy in Mumbai snatched the ladies chain and ran away by scooter but ladies nech has cut marks and is in hospital now. Anyhow we appreciate the police work. In Mumbai local people catch the thief, beat them and give to police. Else these chor give 50% to police.

There are some villages in Tamil Nadu where the entire village people are Criminal Tribes, and since generations they have been doing the same stealing job. Only old people are left in that village and other able bodied men & women of that village go to different parts of South India and show their expertise. They gather in the village once or twice in the year for some festival. Even their women are not afraid of any type of physical punishment from the police. They are a toughened lot. The majority of the thieves in Bangalore comes from Tamil Nadu.

These women are young and strong enough to do any kind of work.Employment does not come in search of you, you have to search for it according to your merits. These women want to get rich overnight with easy money and not ready to earn with hard work.Shedding crocodile tears least realizing the value of the tears shed by the ones who lost the gold made out of their hard work.

Dear Saleem Bhai..God didn't ask poor people to steal. There is severe punishment in Gods court if anyone is involved in stealing, rape and murder. First of all,do they look like poor people.? They are very healthy..HATTA ...KATTA..Why can't they work and earn bread..? Do you know that in twin districts, there is scarcity of servants, especially house maids..We have to pay nearly Rs.8,0000/- food and accomodation for live in house maid..or Rs.6000 for part time..Why these so called poor people work as housemaids and live with respect in the society ?

The Gang of Tamil women has always been active in the crowded buses of Mangalore. They always carry a child to get sympathy and also not to arouse suspicion of the co-passengers. They are very expert in passing on the stolen materials to their accomplice in the bus itself. So, they do not get caught red-handed even if the passengers detect immediately that their jewelry, mobile or purse is missing.
