AED 3 million R&D facility to be set up at Manipal Univ

Media Release

Dubai, Jan 31: The Faizal & Shabana Foundation, part of KEF Holdings, on Thursday January 30 signed an MoU agreement with Manipal University to invest AED 3 million towards a research and development facility for precast concrete technology at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), India and to introduce a precast design and engineering course to the University’s curriculum.

“This is a first for any institute of higher learning in India and has the potential to transform engineering education in the country,” said Faizal Kottikollon, chairman of KEF Holdings and Faizal & Shabana Foundation. “We are pleased to be part of this exciting venture. This new research and development center will no doubt benefit many students and faculty members. Precast concrete technology is rapidly expanding in India due to its sustainability, affordability and time saving measures. We therefore believe that this course will be a huge success at the University.”

KEF Holdings recently entered a partnership with Finland-based Elematic, a leading provider for precast technology and machinery to set up manufacturing plants in India-and later UAE- involving investments totaling AED 200 million. The Foundation aims to further precast technology by introducing it to students to advance the field and create employment opportunities for them.

“We are committed to seeing the advancement of this very successful industry and we believe that it has the potential to transform engineering education,” said Dr Ramdas Pai, Chancellor of Manipal University. “We look forward to seeing the career possibilities and opportunities that will arise from this.”

The research and development center will be set up by the Foundation and expertise will be given to the University via a collaboration with Finland’s Lahti University of Applied Sciences.

In spite of advanced technology and infrastructural development, why we still use the slow and steady tortoise style and face severe problems like high costs, pollution and inadequate and unsatisfactory facilities?
Why not we can use the heavy burden (on wheels) to carry as a free pushing force and enjoy amazing benefits with incredible solutions?

    A great deed.
hope more philanthropists will step in to set up R&D bases and design studios in every technical/engineering and agricultural colleges throughout india.
    Precast:
should pitch in USA-Germany and Japan.
India should start production of high class machinery and finished goods.
The entire nation has to be built from scratch with Tunnels-bridges- loops- roads- underground cities- high rise towers- metros etc.
so it is highly important to educate and train right techniques/skills to bring out the best and most quality products.

Investing in Manipal Institute of TEchnology is a well thought Idea. Today it feels proud as an Indian that an Indian who has studied in MIT is is likely to become the CEO of Microsoft in place of Steve Balmer. South Kanara has been a hub for two issues 1. Providing Good and Quality Education and 2. Good Health Services. Students from St. Aloysius, St. Agnes, BEM High school, University College that are century old have gone on to become top utives in various companies. A small city has been a game changer for bigger cities in terms of education and health. Mangalore and South Kanara has shown the way for people of India in Education and Health. Hats off South Kanara.
