Two trapped in Kashmir avalanche

Srinagar, March 12 (IANS): Four members of a family were trapped under an avalanche in south Kashmir's Kulgam district Wednesday. Two of them were rescued, but two are still under the debris, police said.

Police said an avalanche rolled down a mountain side in Balsaran village in Danau Kandi Marg area Wednesday morning, burying a house with the four family members in it.

Residents rescued two of the members.

"A rescue and relief team has rushed to the village. Reports are still awaited about the fate of the two people still trapped inside," a police officer told IANS.

The state disaster management authority has already issued a warning in the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region about more avalanches and landslides.
