Mangalore, Jun 7: On Tuesday June 6, the playground at Jeppu Nandigudda here, was handed over by the deputy commissioner to the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM), for the construction of the company’s sub-station. The construction was scheduled to commence on Wednesday June 7.
But the acquisition of the playground has irked the localites, who are likely to protest against the same strongly. They have voiced that the playground has been useful to them and that the construction of the sub-station would pose a danger to the area. The district administration had also been pressurized on the issue.
It has now been decided that the sub station will be constructed under police protection.
Since the handing over of the playground was done under the supervision of the deputy commissioner, protests by the localites do not seem to carry any weightage. They have hinted at staging strong protests and protect the playground which has been there for years.
Talks between the locals and officials are likely to take place on Wednesday evening.
